I'm a Fashion Editor—These Are the 9 Summer Trends I'll Continue to Wear This Fall

It's in my nature as a fashion editor to always be looking forward to the fashion seasons ahead, itching to know what the next buzzing trends will be and wanting to get my hands on the new It items before everyone else. I've also learned, however, that some of the most versatile trends have longevity, and when it comes to my summer wardrobe, I'm never too quick to pack away my warm-weather pieces because a little smattering of summer mixed in with fall fashion hits just right.
Luckily, some of this summer's trends will transition seamlessly into fall, and I can't wait to make the most of those early fall weeks when I get to layer and style my summer and fall pieces together in fashion harmony. Below, I've listed the specific summer pieces that are trending right now and are primed for plenty of game time as we head into fall.
Black Dresses
Every stylish person I know is suddenly wearing black dresses this summer—a perfect option when you want to feel put-together with absolutely zero effort required. Whether you choose one in cotton, lace, or silk, the LBD is the perfect piece to wear into fall. Just add layers, or swap your sandals for ballet flats or boots. The styling possibilities are endless.

All Things Lace
Between lace-trimmed skirts and shorts and lace-adorned camisole tops, the fashion set can't get enough of the romantic trend this summer. It's the perfect time to invest in a piece because lace styles will look incredibly chic with your fall staples. Style an oversize cashmere sweater over a lace-trimmed skirt and boots, or try lace-trimmed shorts with a turtleneck and bomber jacket—so chic.
Shop:
Long Pendant Necklaces
One of my favorite trends of the summer? Long pendant necklaces featuring pearls, gemstones, shells, and tassels. Whether you layer multiple necklaces together (short and long) or pair one long necklace with a sleek camisole now and over a knit sweater later, one thing is certain: The jewelry trend is here to stay.
Shop:
Polka Dots
Trend-forward yet timeless, polka dots are the It print of summer 2025. We'll be seeing the fashion set continue to embrace the print this fall. Give your polka-dot dress an autumnal spin and style it with a trench or leather jacket.
Shop:
Woven Leather Bags
It's definitely not too late to invest in a woven bag. Whether it's a tote or a shoulder bag, it's a chic year-round option. As far as the cool Dragon Diffusion toting crowd is concerned, we're locking these in as transseasonal staples for years to come.
Shop:
Scarves as Belts
Wearing your satin scarf as a belt is a trend that's gone viral this summer. I'm seeing printed silky squares folded and styled over dresses, skirts, shorts, and trousers. It's definitely a trick I'll be continuing—perfect to style with my black and brown tailored trousers once fall rolls around.
Shop:
Capris
Love them or hate them, summer's most controversial pants aren't going anywhere just yet. Before it gets too chilly, I'll be wearing the calf-baring style with oversize button-downs and cute cardigans to add a little retro twist to my classic fall looks.
Shop:
Low-Rise Jeans
Low-rise, relaxed jeans will continue their dominance next season. I've been wearing mine with halter tops and camisoles this summer, and I'll style them with a fitted cardigan, a boatneck top, or a button-down in cooler weather for an effortlessly cool look.
Shop:
Ballet Flats
Ballet flats are the perfect shoes that you can wear from summer to fall seamlessly. Style them with shorts throughout the rest of summer and your jeans in the fall.
