FYI: This Entire Summer-Ready Look Cost Less Than $73
Fun fact: Houston was rated the most diverse city in the U.S. this past year. Yes, among its many positive features (namely, delicious barbecue, gorgeous warm weather, and being the hometown of Beyoncé), it's also an eclectic melting pot of different cultures, styles, and tastes, which is also true of the city's unique sartorial vibe. It's no wonder, then, that we're tapping one of its fashion-forward natives, Kavya Pernankil, for insight into the summer trends that'll be at the forefront of our Instagram feeds. Read on to see how she created a fashion-forward warm-weather look using only Walmart pieces for under $73. Bonus: She also told us her favorite Houston brunch spot to wear it to. You're welcome.
Her personal style in three words: "Bold and unique, yet always practical. I like to push the envelope and mix different textures and prints while also keeping in mind that I want to look timeless."
Her summer vibe in one word: "Dynamic."
The top trends for summer she's going to try: "I'm super excited to try more print. I want to incorporate some of these bold trends into looks and see how I can make them classic and wearable."
The outfit: "I'm wearing a long floral maxi with a fanny-pack belt and white sandals and thin small oval sunnies. I chose this look because it speaks perfectly to my style. The bold print of the maxi is striking yet practical, and very comfortable for the Houston heat. I chose the belt bag to give me a nice shape since the maxi dress is looser and flowing. Of course, I chose the sandals to stay comfy yet fashionable. Lastly, the thin oval sunnies offer up the perfect touch of trendiness and sass."
How this look plays into Houston's current trends: "The mix of prints, the belt bag, and, of course, the sassy sunnies speaks to the current trends while representing the bold, diverse
fashion sense of Houston."
On comfort: "I only pick pieces that are flattering and comfortable. This look speaks to that, as it's comfy and flowy; I could wear it for hours in this Houston heat!"
The #1 place she'd wear this look to: "Weekend brunch at Tiny Boxwoods with the ladies or a romantic daytime date at the Cockrell Butterfly Center."
