There's no denying that TikTok has claimed its spot as the social media platform with the biggest (and fasted-changing) presence of beauty trends. From Hailey Bieber's viral "glazed donut" manicure to the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer craze for Victoria's Secret Angel worthy hair, knowing which trends are on their way out or making a triumphant return this year may be challenging, but it's not impossible. I reached out to three of the biggest names in beauty with large social media presences to make their beauty predictions for the new year. Will butterfly clips stick around? What about stiletto nails

Keep reading to discover which TikTok beauty trends will take over 2023 (and which ones have reached their end).

TikTok has been the major driving force behind some of 2022's biggest makeup trends. With the trend cycle moving at the speed of light, knowing the trends that are here to stay apart from those that are destined to fade is a unique skill makeup artists like celeb and influencer makeup artist Allison Kaye has got down to a T. Kaye, with 10 years of experience in the industry and work published in Vogue, Brides, and Allure, foresees glowing, bronzed skin taking over 2023. "I specifically say this because Alix Earle is taking over TikTok right now," Kaye explains. "She loves to start her makeup routine with bronze drops and create a glowy, natural glam look when she’s finished!"

"I think some of the trends that were short-lived won’t make a comeback," says Kaye. "Like the sleepy-eye trend and vampire skin (adding glitter to your foundation)." To replace them, Kaye hopes for the reemergence of natural beauty on the social media platform. "I would love to continue to see more trends that help people highlight their natural beauty!" she adds. "I am personally known for my glowy makeup looks on clients because it keeps them looking fresh and stunning!"

For the scoop on all things nail-related, I turned to celeb manicurist and content creator Hannah Lee. Her star-studded client list includes the likes of Zendaya, Gal Gadot, Zoe Saldaña, and Jennifer Lawrence. When it comes to content creation, Lee does it all: from lighting, filming, taking pictures, and editing her work into videos. Lee's prediction for viral nail trends in 2023? She thinks it will be chrome nails but "in a way where it's more subtle like [with] little accents like a French tip or negative space" and airbrushed nails. For the latter, she highlights the growing popularity of aura nails (nail art featuring a circular ombré or gradient design that resemble aura photos).

Lee also shared what nail trend she believes is on the way out: length. "I’ve seen a shift in nail length with more people opting for shorter, more natural nails than the extra-long ones that we’ve seen for a while," she mused. "Not that we won’t still see it around, but I do feel like shorter nails will be more trendy in 2023." This will come as good news to anyone like me who struggles to do everyday tasks with long nails, which means I'll be be fully embracing the short nails movement as we head into the new year. "I’d love to see more minimalistic blinged-out nails," she expressed. "One of my favorite looks is a natural nail with some subtle bling like tiny rhinestones. Especially in an array of colors!"

Meet Alex Brown: a Chicago-based celebrity hairstylist and salon owner with over 14 years in the hair industry. She has created notable looks for Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Chelsea Handler, and Olivia Culpo and actively participates in New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. "I think hairstyles from the '90s and early 2000s will take over TikTok this year!" Brown exclaims. "Butterfly clips, twisty updos, claw clips, and different kinds of barrettes, voluminous hair with lots of face-framing layers." Unlike Kaye's and Lee's predictions, Brown believes that the hair trends all over TikTok in 2022 will still have legs in 2023.

While she doesn't think any big 2022 TikTok hair trends will be completely out this year, Brown predicts a rise in '90s supermodel looks. Think Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. "I’d love to see more hot rollers and Velcro rollers being used! Big, sexy hair will really be in this year, and using rollers is a great way for people at home to get that amazing volume," she shares. Need some TikTok inspiration?
