I Usually Wear Minimal Jewellery, But I'm Swayed by This Retro Trend

While I mix up my outfits depending on my plans (read: if I’m actually leaving the house), when it comes to jewellery, I tend not to deviate from my six rings, two chain necklaces and small hoop earrings. Some may say boring; I say classic. Jewellery has the power to become a part of you, and I don’t feel like I’m fully dressed until I put on my usual suspects. If I’m going to a wedding or have evening plans, sometimes I’ll go totally wild and switch my hoop earrings to a bigger pair, but that’s as adventurous as I usually get. Of course, I’m always willing to try out new trends, though, and my wardrobe will consist of prints, colour and even miniskirts this season. And while sticking to my minimal jewellery feels comfortable, some recent Instagram posts have made me want to branch out with some ’70s-esque additions.

Style Notes: Lois Opoku layers it all on with drop pendants, earrings and bracelets for a subtle nod to the ’70s.

Style Notes: If anyone knows how to bring the ’70s back to life, it’s Monikh. With a penchant for suede, floaty fabrics and gemstone jewels, theBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing contributor shows how rings are an easy way to play around with the trend.

Monikh Dale is an advocate for resin jewellery, stacking chunky rings with her usual jewellery, which suits her style down to a T. And Lois Opoku has proved how more is more this season with drop necklaces, earrings and bracelets all at once. The ’70s trend with paisley prints, fringing and boho dresses isn’t really my vibe, but the jewellery with a slight nod to the aesthetic feels somewhat new (even if it’s actually rather retro). So whether you want to try out beaded jewels (inspired by DIY hippie styles from the decade), plan to play around with healing crystals (again, from the hippie stage) or you’re happy to keep it classic with locket pendants and layered bangles, these are the five ’70s style jewellery trends to try out.

1. Big Bangles

2. Pendant Necklaces

3. Coloured Stones

4. Supersized Hoops

5. Beaded Everything
