Anna Wintour Says These Are the 8 Biggest Trends of 2020

Maybe Anna Wintour is on to something. She doesn't have any personal social media accounts (that we know of), which leaves her fans always wanting more. So when she does cede to an interview, we cling to every word and eagerly take notes. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Of course, the newest video for the Vogue series Go Ask Anna is no exception.

One of Wintour's responses, in particular, struck us as particularly intriguing. When Wintour was asked about the top trends of the season, she rattled off eight different trends that she thinks dominated the S/S 20 collections, which just concluded last week. Considering Wintour literally has a front-row seat to all the action, you can bet we're all ears. Hint: She listed flat shoes, trench coats, and embroidery—but you're going to have to scroll down to see the complete list of the biggest 2020 trends according to Anna Wintour. 

Flat Shoes

Chanel was one of the may shows championing practical flat shoes for S/S 20. Of course, these cap-toe versions are perfectly in line with the brand's signature shoe style. 

Shorts

During Copenhagen Fashion Week, I interviewed Ganni's creative director, Ditte Reffstrup, who told me that long shorts are the spring 2020 item she's most excited to try. Considering how Ganni always has a finger on the pulse of what's cool, it should be no surprise that long shorts were also seen at a handful of other Copenhagen shows, including Stand, Baum und Pferdgarten, and Mykke Hoffmann. Now that we know Anna Wintour also approves, we're sold. 

Embroidery 

You don't need a beautiful Alexander McQueen embroidered creation to test-drive this trend, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. 

Trench Coats

Investing in a timeless trench coat is highly encouraged, but wearing it with a bathing suit à la Fila is strictly optional. Fila knows that the best versions are equal parts classic (khaki) and modernized (short-sleeve). 

Prints

This '70s-tinged Louis Vuitton look is one of my favorite examples of the jubilant, eye-catching prints that were all over the S/S 20 runways. 

Color

Stine Goya is particularly adept at infusing color into her collections, and her dance-filled show during Copenhagen Fashion Week was no exception. 

Raffia

Set in a makeshift garden, Dior presented plenty of nature-inspired trends, but the one that caught Anna Wintour's eye was the raffia material that was used on everything from hats to skirts. 

Rattan

Michael Kors knows the power of a good rattan bag, as he sent numerous versions down the runway for his S/S 20 show during New York Fashion Week.
