10 New Colour Trends Every Editor Will Wear for the Rest of the Year
While working my way through the mammoth task that is putting the autumn/winter 2019 trend report together for you, I realised one very important thing (aside from the fact I really really want to buy chunky combat boots): The forthcoming season is all about experimental colours, whether worn solo or combined to great effect.
Put wintry hues to one side for a moment and start opening your mind to some more unexpected shades, because although navy, grey, black and the like still stand up as solid choices during the darker months, fashion folk are stepping things up a little. We've already seen some of the key autumn colour trends filtering into 2019. Butter yellow has been a popular summertime replacement for beige here and there, and pistachio green has been a mild obsession amongst editors for some time.
Pantone's earlier prediction of Living Coral taking over the scene for spring didn't quite come to fruition (maybe next year?), but there are other strong contenders for the leading shades of next season: Pantone's Bluestone (a dusky, chalky mid-blue) and Dark Cheddar (exactly what it says on the tin) have already been popping up on the street style scene. Keep reading to see all of the fresh autumn 2019 colours we think our most stylish friends will adopt.
Dark Cheddar
Fendi paired this vibrant shade of orange with neutral browns to create a true '70s palette.
Monikh's silky dress looks striking set against white heels.
You know it's serious when three fashion girls in one shot are wearing the same new hue.

Pistachio Green
Valentino's romantic take on pistachio green shows just one way this continuing colour trend can go.
It can be minimalistic, too, like Brittany's ensemble here.
…or cosy and ready for winter, like Lauren-Nicole's cute roll-neck and-jumper pairing.

Butter Yellow
Molly Goddard used the hue for her signature tulle dresses, but made it all the cooler layered over trousers and flats.
Lisa Aiken doubles up on her yellow pieces, combining them with white accessories and gold jewellery.
Ada takes things a step further with double gingham, a matching yellow bag and white sandals.

Lipstick Red
Alexander McQueen's red-leather skirt suit is the thing that dreams are made of.
This colour transposes easily into eveningwear—even if you choose to wear it in the daytime.
You don't have to wear it head to toe, as proven by Anna's interesting mix here.

Pretty Purples
Christian Wijnants was one of many designers who employed many different shades of purple, often combining them together in one look.
We've already seen the idea on the streets, with girls like Eni pairing hues from the same family together.
You can opt for lighter shades if pastels are more your thing.

Beige Reigns
It's going nowhere—not even with butter yellow creeping up behind it! Beige still rules, especially when worn from top to bottom á la Max Mara.
Tan accessories are the perfect accompaniment in the summer months.
As is gold jewellery and red lipstick.

Bluestone
Pantone's soft shade of blue-green has popped up everywhere, but this Roksanda coat is our absolute favourite.
These Bottega Veneta sandals have been trending hard recently.
And we've noticed this colour cropping up in the tailoring department. A great transitional buy.

Highlighter Neons
Rejina Pyo's flashes of neon against other "weird" colours really ticked a lot of boxes for us.
Who says you can't involve print? If you dare, make like Nnenna.
Or just add a jolt of fluoro via your footwear, like Emili here.

Salmon Pink
Stella McCartney's usage of this soft-pink hue with chunky boots and tan (faux) leather detailing is a good example of how to stop it looking too cute.
Although cute is still good in our books, and Hanna epitomises it.
Slightly darker tones were very popular during the recent round of shows in Paris—see the street style proof.

True Brown
Jacquemus could probably persuade us to wear any given colour, but we particularly enjoyed this chocolate-brown knit with a flirty beige skirt.
Brown suiting could well be the smart autumn office outfit you've been waiting for.
Marisa's brown co-ords are the very height of chic.
