Valentino's New Fragrance Collection Smells Like Summer in Rome, Bottled
Bringing the Eternal City to you.

I can guarantee that there's a Valentino fragrance for every type of occasion this summer. How do I know this? The esteemed fashion house just dropped its ethereal new fragrance collection, Anatomy of Dreams. Whether you're attending a summer wedding, traveling abroad, or want to reconnect with the city dweller within, the suite of fragrances has something to offer everyone.
Inspired by the enchanting essence of Rome, Italy, the master perfumers at Valentino selected ingredients that are meant to evoke Italian memories—a sensory journey through the ancient, culturally rich city. Even if you've never been to Italy, you'll instantly know upon spritzing any of these aromatic offerings where their inspiration came from. While some capture the crispness of an Italian orchard, others evoke the vibrant nightlife of the city and its penchant for rich espresso. If your summer fragrance wardrobe could use something new, keep reading. I'm sharing everything you need to know about the collection below.
Key notes: black pepper essence, juniper berry essence, petitgrain essence, incense DM essence, orange blossom absolute, Italian milk foam accord, sandalwood, vanilla bourbon, ambergris
"Sogno in rosso" translates to "dreams in red" in Italian. Right off the bat, it's the most seductive scent and evokes a night out in Italy. It's, by far, my favorite of the bunch and features notes of black pepper, juniper berries, orange blossom, and bourbon vanilla. Sometimes, black pepper can be a bit overwhelming, especially as a top note, but this fragrance is so unique and beautifully blended that it gives just the right amount of smokiness. I normally go for gourmand fragrances, but I was surprised by how much I love this ambery, spicy perfume. It's so different, and the sweeter base notes perfectly complement the smokier ones.
Key notes: sweet orange oil, grapefruit oil , black cherry accord, jasmine absolute, rose oil, patchouli oil, sandalwood
Notte d'Oro is a very close second for my favorite. Woody and ambery, this fragrance is designed for cool summer nights and the crisp fall season. I'm such a sucker for fruity notes, and the sweet orange oil, grapefruit oil, and black cherry accord are downright delicious in this fragrance. Add in the woodier base notes and you have the perfect combination of woody and sweet.
Key notes: black pepper oil, juniper berry oil, olive wood accord, sandalwood heart, vanilla bourbon, musk
Sweet vanilla bean is infused with spices and resins to make this gorgeous fragrance. I'm so obsessed with the unique ingredients used to craft many of these perfumes—from olive wood accord to juniper berry oil. They really make this fragrance so decadent and rich. I love a sweet-and-spicy combo, and this scent just has so much depth. It's absolutely beautiful, and I know I'm going to be hooked on it for the rest of summer and through fall.
Key notes: Italian green mandarin, angelica seed essence, ambrette Guatemala absolute, rose centifolia infusion, rose damascena absolute, musk
Nothing evokes the scent of a beautiful Italian garden quite like this fragrance. Notes of green mandarin, rose, and angelica seeds transport you instantly to a lush summer wedding. Floral fragrances are usually a bit forgettable to me, but this one is so fresh and crisp and lasts on the skin.
Key notes: bergamot heart, bitter orange oil, mandarin oil, fig accord, orange flower absolute, orris accord, cedarwood oil, patchouli Bali oil, musk
This earthy-fruity scent from the collection is filled with some of my favorite notes, including fig accord, bitter orange oil, orange flower, and orris. Truly, every scent profile in this collection is completely its own—I haven't smelled anything like it. The combination of notes here is perfect. It opens with traditional Italian bergamot but then unfolds into something slightly fresh and juicy with notes of bitter orange oil and mandarin. There's so much to it, but it's never overpowering—just what I love in a fragrance.
Key notes: pink pepper oil, hazel wood accord, geranium oil, orris concrete, cedarwood oil, amyris oil, sandalwood heart, vetiver heart
While all these fragrances are unisex in nature, this one has some traditionally masculine-leaning notes that are woody and spicy. It definitely packs a punch with pink pepper oil, cedarwood oil, and vetiver. It's earthier like Club Couture but is definitely for those who prefer a less fruity profile and more of a husky, heady scent.
Key notes: ginger essence, tuberose absolute, ylang-ylang essence, cappuccino accord, sandalwood, cedarwood Virginia essence, white musks
Tuberose is a tricky note for me because it tends to smell really strong on me, overpowering the rest of the fragrance. But tuberose is paired with ginger, cedarwood, and notes of cappuccino accord to give it more of an ambery composition. The floral notes don't get lost, though. They're equally as pretty, and this scent would be perfect to wear for spring or summer.
