Experts Confirm These 9 Hair Colour Trends Will Define 2025

Before we talk about 2025's hair colour trends, you might want to remind yourself about 2025's hair trends as a whole. Now, assuming you've done so, and now know the cuts and styles set to dominate for the rest of the year, let's take a closer look at colours specifically, because if anyone is in need of a hue refresh, it's me.
I often tell people that I've had the same hair colour for years because it's the only one that suits me, when really, I'm just too afraid to try something different. Balayage has been my safety blanket forever, but I finally feel ready to switch things up, and what better time to get a new hair colour than the start of a new season? Yep, 2025 is all about experimentation, and luckily for me, it looks as if there are going to be some really chic hair colour trends to choose from this spring and summer.
As you can probably guess, I like to plan ahead before doing a big hair transformation, so I've already asked the experts and found out everything there is to know about the biggest hair colour trends of 2025. In fact, I just spoke to Antoinette Beenders, Aveda’s global creative and artistry director, and Sam Burnett, award-winning hairstylist, owner and creative director of Hare Bone, who both shared some exquisite shades for me to choose from this year. "2025 will see a resurgence of bold, vibrant colours," says Beenders. "These trends are all about making a statement with your hair while keeping the overall look polished and sophisticated. Expect to see hues that are rich in pigment and radiate confidence and empowerment."
Intrigued to know more? I've rounded up all the info below, alongside lots of inspo pics and product recommendations. So, what are you waiting for? Keep on scrolling to find your new shade...
9 Hair Colour Trends to Try in 2025, According to Experts
1. Bold Blonde
First up is a statement blonde hue. "Bold blonde shades paired with bold bob hairstyles are a trend poised to take over in 2025," says Beenders. "This look combines the classic appeal of blonde hair with the edgy charm of a '90s blunt bob. The bold blonde hues range from icy platinum to golden yellows, creating a dramatic contrast that exudes confidence and style."
This colour really does pair perfectly with this short hair trend, and as explained by Beenders, this shade is perfect for those of you who want to make a bold fashion statement while maintaining a chic appearance. Just make sure you have some purple shampoo or conditioner to hand to keep your colour looking as bright as possible...

Bleach can leave your hair feeling a little worse for wear, so make sure to nourish your ends with a repairing hair mask.
2. Cool Brunette
Next up is one for the brunettes. "For those who prefer darker tones, the cool brunette trend with a gothic punk edge is set to be a major hit," Beenders tells me. "This trend features deep, cool-toned browns with hints of blue or purple undertones, creating a mysterious and edgy look."
As you can see, this hair colour is a lot darker than your standard brunette shades, giving it a super glossy, polished feel. "The gothic punk influence adds a rebellious and daring element, making it perfect for individuals who want to stand out from the crowd," says Beenders.
The key to getting that salon-worthy finish is to use products that will add extra shine, such as at-home hair gloss treatments and hair oils.

3. Mocha Mousse
If you don't fancy something quite as dark, why not try mocha mousse? "Embrace the warm sophistication of the Mocha Mousse hair colour trend, a perfect harmony inspired by the 2025 Pantone Colour of the Year," says Beenders. "This rich, velvety hue embodies elegance and modernity and is the ultimate choice for those seeking a timeless yet contemporary style."
This shade has a warmer, creamier hue to it, making it super wearable for everyday.

4. Apricot Blonde
For something a little brighter, say hello to apricot blonde hair. "Blondes are taking on a fruity twist with the introduction of apricot blonde," says Beenders. "This delicate blend of blonde with a hint of soft peach offers a fresh and youthful vibe."
This trend is super versatile as you can either go for a subtle apricot hue or something bright and bold. "Apricot blonde is perfect for spring and summer, providing a light and airy feel that is both playful and sophisticated," Beenders adds. If your hair is a mix between blonde and brunette, these subtle apricot tones can help lift it slightly and add beautiful dimension.

5. Blended Honey
"Blended honey hair for 2025 is all about soft, deep, natural bases mixed seamlessly with lighter blonde highlights and deeper caramel shades," says Burnett. "The result is a sun-kissed, multidimensional look that feels natural and fresh, but still polished. Think of a warm honey drizzle giving hair depth without harsh lines."
As explained by Burnett, this trend leans into effortless, lived-in color, where highlights are strategically placed around the face and through the lengths. "It’s perfect for anyone looking for a low-maintenance blonde that feels warm and rich but not too golden or brassy," he says. "This colour works well with a variety of skin tones, especially those with warm or olive undertones, and adds a healthy, natural shine."

6. Russet Red
In contrast to the above, why not go for russet red this season? "[This trend] is a warm, earthy red color that combines deep copper and auburn tones with subtle brown undertones," explains Burnett. "It’s not as bright or fiery as traditional red but has a rich, burnt orange and reddish-brown vibe to it, giving it a natural, rustic look."
Again, this is a super versatile shade that you can tailor to suit your individual look. Although I typically lean towards these colours in autumn and winter, I actually think this would look beautiful in spring and summer, too.

A colour-enhancing mask is a great way to maintain your hair colour between salon appointments.
This shade would look incredible paired with a voluminous blow dry, which can be achieved at home with a hot brush.
7. Kettle Copper
If red isn't your thing, what about copper? "Kettle copper is a bold, fiery shade of copper with a strong orange-red undertone," says Burnett. "It’s a striking, warm colour that has a lot of depth, combining the warmth of copper with a vivid, almost glowing finish."
To bring the trend into 2025, Burnett recommends adding some subtle highlights or ombré techniques to add dimension and soften the intensity around the roots or ends.

Boost your copper colour and add beautiful shine with this conditioning gloss from Glaze.
8. Cherry Chocolate
The chocolate cherry hair colour trend is set to be huge this season. This rich blend of brown and red creates the most stunning shade that looks ultra-sophisticated. "The colour is expected to have a glossy, almost metallic finish, giving it a shiny, healthy look," says Burnett. "This trend is perfect for those who want to experiment with red tones but prefer a more subtle, wearable approach."
If you can't decide between chocolate brown or cherry red hair this season, I highly recommend combining them and going for this trend instead.

Another great option from Davines. This shampoo comes in both red and chocolate, depending on what shade you want to enhance.
9. Butter Blond
Last but by no means least, say hello to butter blonde. "Butter blonde sits somewhere between a yellow '90s blonde and something creamier," says Burnett. "This look leans more into a sandy colour without tipping over into darker, honey-like shades."
I'm personally a huge fan of this colour, and love the creamy finish that it gives. In fact, I like it so much that I might have to try it myself this spring.
