Sorry to My Trousers—These Easy, Throw-On Autumn Dresses Have All My Attention

Simply put, I adore autumn dressing. The process of layering and mixing pieces, be it with rich new-season colours or contrasting fabrics of leather and knits, is so fun for me. But I admit this kind of styling session is reserved for days when I have more than five minutes to get out the door. So when I'm faced with a time crunch, dresses are my saving grace.

Dresses are a one-and-done piece that can be thrown on without much thought—just grab a pair of shoes and a trench coat and you're done. A great dress has saved me on more than one occasion when I've been experiencing outfit fatigue, and with autumn's rather abrupt arrival, I'm looking for more ways to make the wardrobe shift easier. Once again, dresses are my saving grace.

Even on days when you have that extra time, a truly great dress can still win out. So, if you're looking to revive your rotation and make getting ready so much easier this season, you're in the right place. Luckily for us, high-street, mid-range and luxury brands are all offering up so many excellent dresses for the coming season.

For autumn 2024, the best dresses are a mix of cosy knitted styles, playful prints and midi dresses, primed to show a hint of your favourite boots or treasured loafers. Whilst I'll always advocate for spending a little more on an investment style that will go the distance, brands at all price points have honed in on refined, timeless pieces, so there's something to suit all budgets in this edit.
