5 Times Celebs Wore Flats on the Red Carpet (and You Didn't Even Notice)

Not everything about celebrities is relatable, but their desire to stay comfortable at fancy events sure is. Have you RSVP'd to any weddings coming up soon? You'll probably want to take notes here. Even though red carpets usually call for formal outfits, celebrities like Laura Dern, Serena Williams, and Kristen Stewart know how to make flats work for the biggest events on the calendar—yes, including the Met Gala.

Attending the LACMA Art+Film Gala, for instance, Laura Dern paired her dreamy, intricately embroidered Gucci dress with decidedly more laid-back shoes: Aldo's Danilova Black Textile Ballerinas ($70). Comfortable yet fancy enough for a black-tie affair? Yep, she found the perfect option.

Don't think flats are the only route to go—sneakers and gowns are totally acceptable in our opinion. Stewart and Williams happen to agree, as they both wore different Nike sneaks with Chanel and Versace dresses, respectively. Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
