I Just Got Back From Texas—5 Types of Denim Everyone Wore With Cowboy Boots
Western style has recently cemented itself as more of an aesthetic than a trend. The new wave we’re seeing among the fashion crowd is an elevated take on Western-inspired pieces. People are loving the forever-favorite Dallas Boot by Khaite, denim shirting, and statement belt buckles. These accessories can give any look a Southern "twang” without feeling like too much of a statement. With this new era of the Western aesthetic on the rise, I’m telling you not to get rid of your cowboy boots. Trust me—you’ll want to be wearing them in 2023.
I just spent the weekend in Houston, Texas, and the city has already had an effect on my personal style. I mean, I’m wearing my favorite cowboy boots as we speak, so I think that’s saying something. While it’s a very modern city, it still holds on to its Southern roots, and I saw cowboy boots just about everywhere. With how comfortable they are, it makes total sense. I’m filling up my denim drawers for the year and figuring out which styles I’ll be wearing the most. I had to take note of the five types of denim that everyone wore with cowboy boots in Texas to aid in my decision-making process, so explore my observations below.
1. Slim-Fit Jeans
Skinny jeans are looking to make a comeback, and while we’re only at the beginning of the return of this wardrobe staple, it won’t be long before everyone wants their hands on them. I’m not quite there yet, but slim-fit jeans have definitely caught my eye and are almost the same thing. While most people would think to wear them tucked into a pair of cowboy boots, during my time in Texas, I liked seeing people do the opposite.

Your straight-leg jeans should most definitely be baggy.
2. Overalls
I was surprised to see some of my favorite designers last season, such as Brandon Maxwell, showcase overalls in their shows since it’s such a casual and laid-back piece. They’re such a great part of the utilitarian movement that is still running its course, so expect to see them a lot this year. Pairing them with cowboy boots gets you a bonus point.

When someone told me that overalls are back, I believed them after seeing this pair.
3. Long Denim Skirts
I wore a maxi denim skirt with my cowboy boots in 2022, and I will continue to do so this year. When it comes to denim trends, maxi and midi skirts are simply taking over, so naturally, I have to mention this trend next. If you’re really dedicated to showing off your love for cowboy boots, I recommend this technique.

4. Wide-Leg Jeans
Now, this one is a given. Every fashion person’s favorite denim style right now just so happens to be wide-leg jeans. If you’re not ready to commit to cowboy boots taking over your wardrobe but want to let people peek at them, this trend is for you.

I always get compliments when I wear these.
5. Denim Miniskirts
While I have so much love for long skirts, nothing feels better than wearing a mini in warm weather. Cowboy boots definitely pair well with this style, and despite the colder temps, I saw people in Texas showing off their legs with a pair of cowboy boots and a denim mini.
