This One Little Detail Makes Tops Feel Very French
No one does understated sassiness like the French. It's just one part of the je ne sais quoi that our Gallic neighbours across the channel are so good at achieving. Whether it's a hint of lace lingerie under a silk shirt or the fit of high-waisted blue jeans on the derrière, the French are incredible at being un peu playful. You need only look to the country's style muses to see that—from Brigitte Bardot to the contemporary Jeanne Damas. Right now, there's a trending top that's giving me all those French vibes: the tie-front blouse.
Tie-front cardigans cropped up over and over again through autumn and winter. Now for spring, the style has returned in blouse form to suit the brighter, warmer days. It can feel like an an adventurous silhouette to master, but there's nothing stopping you layering the style over a slip dress or camisole, or do it all the way to the top.
As usual, there are plenty of brands carrying this style of top. My favourites are the Ganni version that feature voluminous sleeves and a peplum hem, and Sea's sweet cropped style. Unsurprisingly, there are many French brands such as Réalisation that stock this top too, but don't overlook Ralph Lauren's paired back version or Renaissance Renaissance's multi-bow option. And if you're concerned about budget, Topshop has a great option. But I'd also consider investing in the H&M top below, which features intricate appliqué details.

We love how Vivian has taken a preppy approach to styling her blouse.
Wear with nothing underneath, if you dare.
Or wear open over a dress, like Olivia has.
The broderie details add to the overall French feel.
