5 Ways I'm Wearing Black Miniskirts This Winter
It's fair to say that fashion, from its hemlines and silhouettes to its colourways and cuts, is an ever-changing entity. Case in point: This season, after the midi skirt's long-held reign, the miniskirt made its storming return to the runways of London, Milan, Paris and New York. Riding on the back of the noughties resurgence, floor-skimming hemlines were replaced with thigh-grazing minis in a variety of guises. Some call it fickle, but I like to think of it as keeping things fresh.
Of course, this is not a call to dump your fave midi skirt—if that best serves your sartorial needs, then you do you—but for fashion lovers such as myself, clothing is a way to express creativity, and experimenting with new styles is part of that. Plus, many of you may well already have a mini in your wardrobe, so it's the perfect opportunity to dig it out. After being inspired by the S/S 22 runways, I decided to hop on to Vestiaire Collective and buy myself a pre-loved Paule Ka black wool mini. Top tip: I find that second-hand and rental are a great, more sustainable way of playing with new trends.
My main source of inspiration? Prada's S/S 22 show, which was packed full of silken minis styled with classic boxy leather jackets, slouchy roll-necks and cinched-in blazers. I loved the juxtaposed silhouettes and wintry feel of the outfits. (Although, I would definitely add tights.) So with the mercury dropping, I thought I would offer up my own interpretation of the miniskirt trend, which is suitably cold weather ready. Scroll down to see how I'm wearing my miniskirt five ways this winter.
1. Miniskirt + Roll-Neck Cable-Knit Jumper + Chunky Boots
Style Notes: One of the recurring themes in the Prada outfits was the baggier top half-contrasted with the tailored mini. So for this outfit, I embraced the chunky appeal of my fave cable-knit jumper tucked into my miniskirt then grounded with a pair of chunky boots.

2. Miniskirt + Knitted Vest + Printed Shirt
Style Notes: There's something a little school uniform about a knitted vest paired with a miniskirt, but hopefully, I kept it contemporary by adding flat boots and a fun vintage shirt.

3. Miniskirt + Shirt + Printed Base Layer + Knee-High Boots
Style Notes: This was inspired by some of my fave French fashion influencers, such as Anne-Laure Mais, who love to throw a tailored shirt over a miniskirt and knee-high boots. I think the printed base layer is important to keep it from looking too corporate.

4. Miniskirt + Oversized Blazer + Heels
Style Notes: For something a little sassier, try styling your mini with a men's tuxedo blazer (you can find loads second-hand). Then, add sheer tights and patent heels. Perfect for a party.

5. Miniskirt + Statement Jacket + Blouse
Style Notes: Bring a '60s edge to your miniskirt with a statement cropped jacket (this is an old one from Saks Potts) and an organza blouse. Throwback perfection.
