I Tried the 2018 Way to Wear a Blazer and Jeans—Here's What It Looks Like

Blazers of all kinds were clearly one of 2017’s biggest fashion items. All theBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing editors jumped on board, and practically every girl on the street style scene has been snapped in one. But as the trend has grown and evolved, so have the ways women are wearing the piece, and there’s a fresh way fashion girls are styling their blazers in 2018: tucked into a pair of jeans or high-waisted trousers. Impressed by the inventiveness of the look, I was eager to try it for myself.

Originally inspired by an image Sophia Roe posted to her Instagram, I’ve since seen a number of tucked-in blazer outfits popping up—everywhere from campaign images for Isabel Marant to photos from the street style scene. Trying it for myself for the first time, I grabbed one of my favorite pairs of flared jeans. Next time, though, I’d love to try the look with vintage-inspired straight-leg jeans. While I have the style in my closet already and tried to make the pairing work, I quickly learned that sizing up to a looser fit is essential for making them work with a tucked-in blazer.

Another iteration of this look works by layering a turtleneck tee underneath the blazer or swapping out jeans for high-waisted trousers instead—again, with an emphasis on a looser fit and the addition of a waist-cinching belt to pull it together. And my favorite detail is an unexpected piece of jewelry, a styling trick I picked up from Roe, who wore a faux-pearl choker with her look. In my case, I added crystal earrings, which act as the perfect balance to the blazer.

Ready to try the look for yourself? Here are some of my favorite blazers and jeans of the moment that I think would look great with the trend.
