Cardi B's AMA Look Was Straight Out of the '90s Due to These Genius Hair Tools
Creative hairstyles really had their moment in the '90s—think spiky hair, butterfly clips, and feathered cuts. At this year's American Music Awards, Cardi B showed up to perform with some of the best hair we've seen since 1999.
Her look, which featured Rapunzel-esque super-straight strands, deeply side-parted bangs, and a waterfall of hair gathered at the top of her head, will definitely be considered iconic for years to come. Paired with silver jewelry and a powder-blue ensemble, Cardi B truly stole the show.
To create this stunning look, celebrity hairstylist Tokyo Stylez reached for GHD tools. Below, find the full breakdown of how Stylez created Cardi's sculptural hair.
To prep Cardi's hair, Stylez first blow-dried with this high-powered hair dryer.
To finish blow-drying with the smoothest, silkiest hair possible, Stylez used this round brush for control and sleekness.
Stylez straightened the hair in small sections using this flat iron. After that, Stylez sectioned off the top half of Cardi's hair to create a high ponytail at the top of her head. She twisted sections of the ponytail to create a '90s-esque twist and pinned the front part of her bangs to the side.
Stylez added a touch of movement by creating soft bends with this curling iron.
For one final sleekness boost, Stylez ran this on-the-go cordless flat iron over Cardi's hair.
Stylez kept everything in place using a strong hold hair spray. We recommend this one from R+Co.
