This Shoe Faux Pas Is Going to Be the Next Big Thing
Editors, stylists, and It girls alike eagerly await the Céline runway show. It’s one of the houses that sets the tone for some of the biggest trends for the next season. For S/S 17, colored tights, brushstroke-print dresses, and cutout coats were notable runway moments. However, it was a striking shoe trend that truly caught us by surprise. Indeed, Phoebe Philo sent models down the runway in mismatched shoes. A yellow sandal was paired with a dark green version of the same shoe. A red bootie was worn with a white one. To many, wearing mismatched shoes might have implied that you got dressed in the dark. It would be considered an accident, a faux pas if you will. Yet, we’ll always marvel at how fashion designers have the incredible ability to broaden our conception of what’s in style, or even acceptable, in the fashion sphere. Whether the look turns into the next big thing remains to be seen, but if Philo’s track record for setting trends is any indication, we’ll all be intentionally flaunting the mismatched shoe look come spring.
Check out the runway looks below to see how Philo thinks the shoe trend should be styled.
