Proof This Cold-Weather Shoe Trend Has Staying Power for Summer

We love working velvet into our ensembles for every possible occasion, but come summertime, it proves tricky. Hot, sticky summer months aren't very conducive to wearing our favourite velvet pieces (at least not comfortably). While the material never fails to make a statement, what's also guaranteed is that it holds in heat and hardly breathes. So when summer rolls around, we typically retire our velvet staples to the back of our closets, waiting for the first chill of fall before breaking them back out.

But Chiara Ferragni presented a clever way to work velvet back into your summer wardrobe. Over the weekend, Ferragni stepped out in a summery ensemble at Men's Fashion Week in Milan. Everything about her look was ringing in the sunny days ahead—a bright yellow sequin-encrusted crop top paired with a bold A-line skirt with an eye-catching Warholian floral print. However it was her choice of footwear that caught our eye—chartreuse velvet platform heels. The unexpected material added a playful touch to the outfit while also proving it's possible to incorporate velvet into your summer outfit without overheating.

Head below to see how Chiara Ferragni styles her summery look with velvet platforms and shop some of our favourite velvet shoes fit for summer.
