For Coach, It's About Selena, Cool Outerwear, and the Iconic Logo

Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.
Walking into the Coach show during NYFW was like stepping into the Blair Witch Project. You felt something for sure with the dimly lit forest on the runway, complete with bare trees, piles of leaves, smoke, and TV screens playing ominous spooky footage. The entire experience felt like a supernatural dark romance—which sums up the collection of long-sleeved dresses in winter florals as well as perfectly constructed leather and shearling.
While I could go on and on, I’m going to edit the entire experience down to my three main takeaways below. And, yes, yes, it does include Selena Gomez.
The Show Summed Up in Three Looks
For Coach, it’s always about the outerwear. (In fact, I live in this moto jacket on a daily basis.) Creative Director Stuart Vevers consistently sends the most gorgeous shearling coats, leather jackets, and luxurious layering essentials down the runway—and this collection was no exception.
Two Words: Selena Gomez
As the face and collaborator of Coach, a Selena sighting was almost guaranteed. As she swooped into her seat right before the show started, you could almost feel her celebrity radiating through the venue when the hoards of photographers started flashing their lights. To be honest, she looked perfect with her new hairstyle and cool Coach leather jacket.
The Print We’re All Going to Wear Again
Many of you probably have an experience with the signature “C” logo. For me, it’s all I cared about in 2005 (and beyond). Well, the look is back. That’s right, Stuart re-worked the logo on a variety of must-haves from coats to bags, proving the iconic print will forever have staying power.
