The '90s Skirt Trend That Is Destined to Replace Miniskirts

I have a growing affinity for all things '90s fashion. Whether it's sleek throwback bags, wedge sandals, minimalist tank tops, or strapless dresses, my style inspiration recently has revolved around some of the signature pieces from the decade. Thanks in large part to the recent runway shows, column skirts have also landed on my list of '90s-inspired pieces to own.

A departure from the major miniskirt trend that has swept the fashion scene, column skirts can instead be found in midi and maxi lengths. Plus, they have a straight design—hence the column moniker—making them a distinct silhouette that is set to be big on the fashion scene. The shape feels elegant and polished, while still easy to wear and dress up or down. On the fall 2022 and resort 2023 runways, designers looked back and brought nostalgic fashion into focus. There has been a lot of talk about the Y2K style resurgence, but '90s-inspired pieces are also making a major comeback. This was crystallized at Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Beare Park, and St. Agni, where the brands showcased beautiful column skirts.

Take a styling note from Ludovic de Saint Sernin and add a choker necklace to really tap into the '90s aesthetic.

While maxi skirts are a standout style, designers including St. Agni are also endorsing midi skirts.
