These 7 Items for Winter Are the Textbook Definition of Elegant
This winter, the word that’s on my mind when it comes to building out my wardrobe for the season is elegant. Not snobby or stuffy, but elegant. Think glamorous without being in your face—an understated, quiet luxury vibe, if you will. I wanted to figure out the simplest way to master the art of dressing elegantly without needing pieces that are über-expensive or feel too fussy. After all, the goal is elegant, not difficult. I was narrowing down the hero items one may need when on the quest for an elegant winter wardrobe and came to the conclusion that there are seven chic picks to buy that, if you ask me, are nonnegotiable. These seven items are not only super-stylish and chic picks but also basics you probably already have in your wardrobe at home. But as it's the season of giving, you may also want to give yourself a treat.
Keep scrolling to see which seven pieces I’ve deemed elegant.
Faux-fur jackets
Faux-fur jackets have always had a certain level of glamour to them that I just adore. After all, the holiday season is about being a little over the top, and sometimes you want a piece of outerwear that isn't a puffer coat or a wool coat. I'm loving faux-fur pieces paired with more classic basics like cashmere sweaters and bodysuits, but I'm also loving a faux fur thrown over a party dress. Whichever route you go, I guarantee you'll gain tons of compliments.
Shop faux-fur coats:
Cashmere sweaters
The classic basic that everyone needs multiples of in their closet. I swear I could live in my cashmere sweaters in the winter months. Not only are they so soft and cozy, but they work with basically anything and are appropriate for basically anywhere. Heading to your office? Grab a cashmere sweater. Going to happy hour? Grab a cashmere sweater. Have a travel day? Cashmere sweater wins again. They also make great gifts.
Shop cashmere sweaters:
Gold earrings
I'm one of those people who is always wearing gold jewlrey, so I'll admit I'm biased, but a good pair of gold earrings tops off any outfit perfectly. I love a pair that has an '80s feel to it. Add any of the chic picks I linked below to your favorite sweater and denim look to take things up a notch.
Shop gold earrings:
Tall black boots
If there is one item that gets me actually excited for the winter months, it's tall black boots. The ultimate sleek and sexy boot that goes with essentially every winter outfit. A good pair of sleek tall black boots will carry you through all of winter this year and for years to come. They pair well with a miniskirt or dress, jeans, or trousers.
Shop tall black boots:
Scarf coats
There is something so sophisticated about a scarf jacket. Not to mention the two-in-one is so much handier than having to bring a scarf along with your coat. This jacket just says, "I'm chic, polished, and expensive."
Shop scarf coats:
Luxe leggings
I didn't think I would be calling leggings elegant, but plenty of the looks I have been oohing and ahhing over lately incorporate a luxe version of leggings. It's such a no-brainer pant choice in winter and the perfect easy pick when you have a day full of running around. There's a pair from The Row I've linked below that I think I need.
Shop leggings:
Long coats
Long coats, wool coats, double-breasted coats—whatever you want to call them, they're seriously chic and probably the number one thing I would recommend buying if elegance is your goal this winter. They have a polish and sophistication that other coats just don't have. Every chic New Yorker I know has one or two of these in their outerwear rotation.
