These 4 Expensive-Looking Work Outfits Are Guarantee to Spark Compliments From Your Colleagues
Whether you’re heading into the office or working from home, deciding what to wear to work can feel like a mission. Being in the office five days a week means I rely on a capsule rotation of work outfits consisting of staple items that I can mix and match to create a variety of outfits. And whilst I may lean towards luxury brands like Toteme and The Row, my budget (sadly) doesn’t quite stretch that far, so I’m always on the hunt for high-street gems that have an expensive feel.
The high street is only getting better for workwear, with brands such as H&M, Other Stories, Arket, COS and Weekday offering on-trend and timeless options with affordable price tags. I’ve scoured the internet to find some 9-5 outfit inspiration, and you'll be pleased to know that all of the below looks require minimal effort but will earn you maximum style, points all whilst not breaking the bank. From classic tailored co-ords to office-appropriate throw-on dresses perfect for the warmer weather, I've got you covered.
So, keep reading to discover four effortless yet expensive-looking outfits ideal for wearing to work.
1. Waistcoat Suit + Mary Janes
Style Notes: A co-ord is always a trusted wardrobe option for me; the waistcoat and trouser pairing makes it effortlessly easy when deciding what to wear in the morning. Dress up with a smart shoe or opt for a more casual look with a pair of flats, before completing the outfit with a sleek shoulder bag and statement gold jewellery.
Shop the Look:
These matching trousers are so versatile; I can picture them with so many items from my wardrobe.
If your office has a more casual dress code, these pretty flats will bring an off-duty feel to a tailored co-ord. Plus, they're a comfortable option for commuting.
A staple black leather shoulder bag can be pricey, but there are many great faux-leather options on the high street, such as this sleek style from M&S.
This chunky rectangular chain necklace makes such a quiet-luxury statement.
2. Mididress + Blazer + Sandals
Style Notes: When in doubt, a dress never fails. Your outfit is practically complete with this throw-on number—just pop a classic blazer over your shoulders, grab a bucket bag and a pair of sunnies and you’re good to go!
Shop the Look:
This midi dress will make a perfect go-to work outfit in the warmer months, and it has such great reviews.
Charles Keith should be on your radar for bags and shoes. These look so much more expensive than they are.
From the office to after-work drinks, this sculpted ring works for so many occasions.
You really don't have to spend a lot to get designer-looking sunglasses.
3. Blouse + Linen Trousers + Mules
Style Notes: There’s something about a blouse and wide-leg trouser combination that looks so put-together. Choose an airy linen pair that you’ll wear outside of working hours and an office-appropriate top to get the perfect balance.
Shop the Look:
This classic loose, straight-leg style proves why COS is hailed for its vast trouser offering.
Such a chic, anti-trend staple.
These mules are a smart-casual option that can easily be dressed up or down.
4. Slim-Fit Button-Down + Midi Skirt + Mules
Style Notes: For those with a smart office dress code, a tailored midi skirt is a great alternative to a classic pair of trousers. Style with a striped, slim-fit button-down, pointed-toe mules and a slouchy tote for a polished yet modern corporate look.
Shop the Look:
Whistles' price point is slightly higher for the high street but its quality staple items (like this tailored midi skirt) are worth it.
Corporate or not, I swear by a button-down (especially a striped one).
This River Island tote is reminiscent of Bottega Veneta’s iconic woven bags.
