This Ankle Boot Trend Is Going to Be Everywhere in 6 Months
Hold up—before you put away your ankle boots for good as we embark into the season of strappy sandals, mules, and lightweight sneakers, I want to bring your attention to a new ankle boot trend that was so prominent in the F/W 19 collections, I simply couldn't wait the full six months to reveal it. In my recent coverage of the biggest fall 2019 shoe trends, I called out the new boot trend to know—"storm stompers"—and today, I'm going to give you a closer look.
As an editor, some of the heaviest-hitting trends are the ones I notice without having to go back and analyze show after show and scroll through my thousands of kind-of-blurry iPhone photos of the runway and market appointments. Instead, these trends are the ones I notice right off the bat due to their ingenuity and positioning. This season, one of those trends was heavy rubber-soled ankle boots.
These are different than platforms and certainly different than your run-of-the-mill block heels. Instead, this particular ankle boot trend is defined by it's large and chunky textured rubber sole. This detailing is found on boot styles ranging from Chelsea to combat, but it's the lower half that is setting the tone for this particular sartorial statement.
Currently, as this is a trend that won't really show up until fall 2019, there is limited product available, meaning it's time to start counting down the days to next season because if there's one thing the runways, market appointments, and Instagram have proved to me, it's that this ankle boot trend will be everywhere in just six months time, you'll see.
On the runway:
This dominating shoe trend was hard to miss on the fall 2019 runways thanks to the large-and-in-charge rubbery soles. We saw cult-favorite designers like Burberry and Alexander McQueen slip their models' feet into these storm stompers as they accompanied everything from flouncy dresses to skirt suits.
In the market:
Post fashion month, us editors take to the streets once again for market previews where we get an up-close and personal look at the fall 2019 collections. After seeing these boots pop up in almost identical form at more than one appointment, I knew this trend was one we needed to document as officially bubbling ASAP.
On Instagram:
Even Instagram's most beloved accounts and influencers have already started wearing the trend, and although the detailing of the heavy rubber isn't identical, it's the vibe that counts, ultimately giving us further proof that this ankle boot trend is one that will take off.
In your cart:
As we touched on before, since this is a fall 2019 trend, there are currently very limited products available that fit within the trend. Some of you might want to wait until those exact Ganni boots are available in six months, but others of you definitely want a similar version right now, which is what the selection of ankle boots ahead is for.
