We Asked Fashion Insiders to Predict the Top Buys For Fall 2024—Here’s What Made the Cut

The Luxury List is a monthly column on all things luxury, tapping the foremost experts in the fashion space to explore everything from craftsmanship deep dives to the little-known details to consider when buying fine jewelry.
If summer is all about great suitcase essentials such as swimsuits and sandals, fall is all about smart versatile buys to wear all throughout the season and in the coming years. It is the time of the year when great outerwear drops on the market from designers, as well as some of the strongest handbag and accessories.
To get a preview of the best buys of the season, I’ve already consulted fashion insiders to gauge what they’re wearing for fashion month and the items sitting in their cart for fall. To take a deeper look into what will be big for fall, I also asked fashion people to weigh in about the top trends and buys to invest in now. Ahead, see the four top trends fashion editors and insiders are recommending for fall 2024, including everything from the handbag two experts recommend snapping up, the jacket already selling out everywhere, and the jewelry items that are set to define style amongst those who are most in-the-know.
Brown Suede Handbag
"If you don't already own a brown suede bag, run to your nearest store to ride the wave on one of the most luxurious hero items of the season. My editor senses are telling me that these luxe smooth bags are guaranteed to sell out come fall." —Alexis Bennett, shopping content lead, Elle
Watches In Updated Materials and Colors
“As an avid watch collector, I love seeing classic timepieces modernized with new materials or colors. Bulgari’s Serpenti is the epitome of style and elegance, yet an entirely different vibe is taken on when it's made in black ceramic; its undeniably cool and incredibly irresistible. I am dying to see what other jewelers decide to play with ceramic, espeically when updating their core collections." —J.J. Owens, founder, Daily Grail Official
Suede Jackets
"While Prada showed rich brown suede jackets in their Fall 2023 collection a few seasons back, I've seen a handful of similar styles making their way into fall's latest arrivals. Only problem is, they're selling out rather quickly! Cos's version came and went, but there's more from Carven, Tibi, and Staud, too. Consider it a chic and a little bit rustic alternative to a classic blazer or leather jacket, and can be thrown on over anything just as easily." —Madeline Fass, senior market editor, Vogue
Sculptural Rings
"Tiffany just released a new adaptation of Elsa Peretti's famous split bone design in the form of a ring which I am obsessed with! I believe this ring will be everywhere in a short matter of time and a new cult-favorite item for Tiffany and Elsa Peretti admirer's alike. This new ring is chic, understated, and unique—much like all of Elsa Peretti's timeless designs." Julia Rabinowitsch, founder, The Millennial Decorator
Suede Handbags, Cont.
"Miu Miu immediately comes to mind for this, they are dominating my sourcing requests at present and I don't see that slowing down any time soon. For Fall, my focus is on their newest suede handbags. Handbags are one of my most requested categories from the brand, and it's very easy to see why. For the ultimate cool girl style, my top pick is their new Arcadie padded suede top-handle bag." —Gab Waller, founder, Gabwaller.com
