Dua Lipa, Lily Allen and Ayo Edebiri Agree—This Cute Accessory Trend Isn't Going Anywhere in 2025

Annie Wheatland-Clinch
Looking back, I think we’d all agree last year was dominated by aesthetics, “tennis core”, “office siren” and “garden girl” each took over the zeitgeist at one point or another but, in retrospect, it’s clear these microtrends didn’t have much staying power. However, the same can’t be said for the unexpected accessory trend we saw sky rocket last spring: bag charms.
Offering a playful update on day-to-day styling, the bag-charm trend was rife across the early '10s as fashion people adorned their most-prized possessions with fuzzy Fendi monsters and other such kitsch accoutrements. Falling out of favour by the latter half of the decade when pared-back dressing took hold, unadorned handbags then went on to enjoy their time in the sun.
However last spring, Lily Allen and Dua Lipa were both spotted decorating their Hermès Birkin bags with an array of charms and scarves. Giving their pricey bags a relaxed and laidback dressing down, the embellishments juxtapose the elegance of the Hermès Birkin in a way that many of us mightn't have dared compromise before.
Fast forward to 2025, a year since the trend’s initial resurgence, and bag charms are officially the trend we can’t shake off—thankfully we don’t want to. Celebrities and influencers haven’t yet tired of accessorising their, well, accessories, and if anything, the luxury adoption of this fun trend has accelerated it beyond our imaginings.
From Lily Allen’s bedazzled Birkin to Ayo Edebiri’s furry keychain-adorned Loewe bucket bag, in 2025 fashion people are using bag charms as a mode of self expression, adding new layers of personality to their outfits. One glance at this season’s fashion month street style trends and it’s clear the bag-charm bug has really ricocheted across all genres of style. Whether you’re a plushie-loving Miu Miu girl or a Chloé muse embracing the boho renaissance, there’s a plethora of personality-defining charms to shop.
The resilience of such a fun and personal trend has us entertaining a question many fashion insiders are asking, “is quiet luxury over forever?”. Perhaps. Or maybe it’s not that deep—maybe the two can co-exist all at once. Either way, if adorning your most personal possession with something fluffy, sparkly, kitschy, witty or simply just very cute is a bit of you, scroll on for our edit of the best bag charms to shop this spring.
