The 8 Best Pieces to Invest In for Fall 2025

There are plenty of major trends and micro-trends to read up on for the season ahead and many new items arriving for fall that fit within each. But which items are actually worth investing in? After carefully poring over the fall/winter 2025 runway collections, I noticed some key seasonal buys.
Faux fur and upcycled fur coats will be one of the most prevalent outerwear pieces of the season. Getting a little more niche, tassels will continue to trend heavily into fall. This summer, they appeared on necklaces, but we’ll see them more on belts in the coming months. We’ve also been discussing the return of printed satin scarves, which I expect to be a key accessory of the season. Other finds, such as plaid button-up shirts, were less expected when the runway shows debuted, but it’s clear they will be a hero piece for fall given their prevalence both on the street style scene and in the market. Ahead, the key pieces to invest in for fall 2025.
The Peplum Jacket
The silhouette of the season! Peplum shapes are back, and while we're expecting to see them appear in a variety of forms, hourglass-shaped jackets are the style to invest in.
The Plaid Shirt
Checked button-up shirts were on the recent runways, including Michael Rider's Celine debut. The piece was also popular at Copenhagen Fashion Week and is set to be a staple for off-duty outfits as well as looks on the street style scene at fashion month.
The Column Skirt
Sleek, timeless, and classic, column skirts are emerging as a must-buy piece for fall. Style one with everything from a checked shirt to a cashmere crewneck sweater.
The Car Coat
We're seeing a return to nostalgic, other-era pieces. Among them, car coats. The single-breasted outerwear is in the collections of brands including Tory Burch and Staud.
The Printed Scarf
This summer, the fashion set incorporated printed scarves into their wardrobes by tying them around their waists as belts. They're the hottest accessory of 2025, and for fall, we'll see them styled in new ways.
The Bomber Jacket
Designers are doubling down on leather bomber jackets for fall. Beautiful versions have dropped for the season, including everything from suede styles to leather designs finished with shearling collars.
The Tassel Belt
Spotted on the fall/winter 2025 runways at buzzy brands like Kallmeyer, tassel belts will be big this season.
The Furry Outerwear
Brands including Altuzarra and Prada had some of the most impactful looks on the runways. Just-in arrivals from Nili Lotan and Toteme are investment-worthy.
