Fall Days Are Upon Us—Here's Your Unofficial Shopping Guide to Transitional Dressing From NET-A-PORTER

I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, but let's be real: There's no way we'll have a chilly, cool September. So, instead of jumping right into cold-weather dressing with soft cashmere sweaters and heavy jackets, I'm practicing the art of transitional dressing. Fall is a lot like spring, where the weather changes throughout the day and no week is similar to the next. So, I'll be making use of short-sleeve tops and dresses, but instead of styling them with flip-flops, I'll be pairing them with a seasonally apt light jacket and closed-toe shoes. For these light seasonal refreshes, I'm heading to NET-A-PORTER, which has the best selection of chic pieces from brands like Dôen, Proenza Schouler, Khaite, and more.
Below are some of my favorite chameleon pieces that you can wear year-round (yes, actually). There are tops for layering, dresses that go with flats or boots, chic denim, and so many more.
Tops
For the next few months, all you'll hear about is layering—pairing T-shirts with jackets, button-downs with tanks, and sweaters over dresses. The pieces below can be layered on cool days, but they still stand on their own.
Dresses
The plaid Dôen dress is at the top of my shopping list. I think it'd look so chic for the office with a pair of flats and a sweater draped around the shoulders. Casual dresses will come in handy on warm days when you need to look polished but are tired of denim and trousers.
Denim
Jeans and fall are a match made in heaven. This year's fall denim trends aren't straying far from what we've already been wearing. Expect to see a lot of darker washes, straight-leg styles, and barrel silhouettes.
Flats
Although it might be warm enough for flip-flops, it just feels like a faux pas come mid-September. Flats are the perfect in-between, especially the breathable mesh pairs that have been thriving this summer.
Bags
If you want to incorporate suede into your wardrobe but find the material too heavy for early fall days, a bag in the fabric will do the trick. It's so pretty, and will make your outfits feel more in-season, even if you're wearing a tank top and jeans.
