My Ode to the Anti-Jacket Jacket I Wear Every Fall

For a bit of context, it's late October, and where I live (the Southeast), the temperature will rise to 80° today. With fall weather like this, you kind of need a jacket, especially when the sun rises and sets, but you don't really need a jacket jacket. More often than not, my jacket of choice is actually a blazer.

While different blazers serve different purposes, I find that the one that makes the most sense to wear as a jacket is an oversize one. I'm, of course, aware of the chatter that oversize blazers have been replaced by cinched-waist ones, but I'd have to disagree. They may be elegant, but cinched-waist blazers don't work nearly as well as a jacket substitute. On the other hand, an oversize blazer can be layered over a sweater if needed for those chillier fall days.

Given my fondness for oversize blazers, I've acquired quite a few over the years and have found that certain brands are simply superior at making them. Below, I'm highlighting eight brands that make the best oversize blazers to wear as jackets this fall and every other time of the year. Scroll to shop them for your own collection.

Anine Bing

Anine Bing blazers are a splurge, but I can say with confidence that they're worth every penny. The Quinn Blazer is my go-to, and after ordering it in sage green, I immediately ordered it in black. (Pro tip: I recommend going down a size.)

The Frankie Shop

Fashion people love The Frankie Shop for its ultra-oversize blazers—among other things—and the brand is constantly releasing favorite styles in seasonal colors.

Aritzia

My Aritzia blazers are some of my favorites in my closet. There are a ton of styles, colors, and prints to choose from, so there's something for everyone.

Almina Concept

Almina Concept is my secret source for blazers and sweaters that look like you spent way more on them than you did. An added bonus is that there's typically a coordinating pair of trousers if you want to make it a suit.

COS

COS is known for its high-quality, affordable staples. Its blazers have the perfect amount of slouch.

Toteme

You can't go wrong with anything Toteme, especially its outerwear. All of it is perfectly oversize and comes in neutral, versatile shades.

Madewell

For another affordable option, look no further than Madewell, which always stocks a variety of oversize blazers. My favorites are the leather and suede options.

Wardrobe.NYC

Last but not least, Wardrobe.NYC is another luxury brand that's a worthy investment. Its super-oversize blazers are a celebrity favorite.
