Sale season is all about strategy. For luxury brands, the key is to scout the items you want during introductory discounts and watch as they continue to dip in price, following through on the purchase only when there's just one SKU left in your size. For lower-priced retailers, I focus on basics, using the lower prices as an opportunity to stock up on pieces I wear frequently but that tend to wear down over time. Such was my plan when I heard murmurs about a major sale at The Gap.

As we speak, shoppers can take 40% off with the code GAPVIP and save an additional 10% with the code PERK. It's a sale that makes it all too easy for me to restock my faded-from-wear basics ahead of the warm weather. So, of course, I woke up unbearably early to shop the selection before all the best items and colors—not to mention my sizes were sold out. See which basics I'm buying in bulk for spring and summer and shop the sale, which ends on April 30, below.
