Turns Out, Helen Mirren Doesn't Wear Everyone's Favorite Fashion Item
Dame Helen Mirren began her acting career over 50 years ago. Now, seventy films (and counting) later, the award-winning actress is showing zero signs of slowing down. In fact, in her latest project, she's doing something that may seem a bit outside of her usual wheelhouse, transforming into real-life historical character Sarah Winchester for the film Winchester, which is in theaters now.
Set in the early 1900s, the film tells an eerie tale of the haunted Winchester Mystery House, built by firearm heiress Sarah Winchester, a woman filled with grief over the loss of her husband and daughter and plagued with guilt over those killed at the hands of Winchester rifles. To some, this role may seem unusual for the actress, but as Mirren explains in a new MyDomaine interview, the air of mystery drew her to the part.
In addition to discussing her latest film with MyDomaine, Mirren shares some secrets for self-confidence at every age (noting that you start to care less about being un-self-confident the older you get) and the one fashion item every woman should have in her wardrobe.
"Well, certainly a great pair of jeans is a good thing, isn't it?" she said. But, as it turns out, the actress herself rarely wears jeans, noting that she doesn't find them that comfortable. Instead, she'd rather wear a "really beautifully made pair of silk knickers."
Aside from being an award-winning actress and a style icon, she's also quite the master at Instagram, offering a real (and oftentimes humorous) behind-the-scenes look into her life. So if you're not yet following her, we suggest you do so ASAP. See our four favorite Instagrams of hers below, and then head to MyDomaine for the complete interview.
