Following These 5 Tips Will Get Your Selfie the Most Likes
Let’s admit it, taking the perfect selfie requires a lot more effort than we’d like to let on. No matter how casual the caption or candid the pose, how many times have you actually posted a selfie after taking only one, quick casual picture? We’re willing to bet that doesn’t happen very often, if ever.
Though getting a great selfie may require more work than we’d like to admit, the good news is that a quality selfie definitely pays off. Not only does it show off your personality to your followers, but InStyle reports that selfies in general get somewhere between 1.1-3.2 times more likes than any other photos posted on Instagram. So please, stop posting photos of your avocado toast, and start showing off yourself. After all, shouldn’t your page be a reflection of you anyway?
Unless your account is used for business or something along those lines, selfies are the perfect way to showcase your personality to your followers. And to ensure your selfie success, we've rounded up a list of tips that are sure to garner the most likes. By following these five easy tips, you'll elevate your selfies to a whole new level.
1. Use natural lighting
When snapping a selfie, natural lighting is the easiest way to make your photo great. Avoid unflattering shadows by always facing the sun directly. Good lighting can also help to brighten your face and even out your complexion in a photograph.
2. Take the photo from an upwards angle
Rather than holding your phone straight in front of your face, position the camera slightly higher than eye-level, angling the phone down towards you. Doing this will make your face appear slimmer and avoid any potential double-chin shots.
3. Don’t use your typical smile
While your first instinct may be to enlist your go-to smile, Instagram’s most-followed celebrities exemplify that different poses get much more attention. Whether it’s a sassy kiss, pouty lip, or classic smize, choosing a fun pose is an easy way to amp up your selfie.
4. Know when to use a mirror
When you have an amazing outfit on, don’t let it go to waste. Instead, showcase what you’re wearing in your selfie by opting for an in-the-mirror shot. This will show off your personal style to your followers too by allowing them to see your look in its entirety, rather than just a close up of your face.
5. Don’t look at the camera straight on
Possibly the easiest way to instantly make your selfie better is to turn your head slightly when taking the photo. By angling your chin down and to the side, you will elongate your facial features, making for a more flattering photo. Something else to keep in mind: turn your head to the right, to highlight your left side. InStyle reports that this is scientifically the most photogenic pose: “The theory is that the left cheek poses are intuitively perceived as more emotionally open and expressive than right cheek poses”, Dr. Anukka Lindell shared in an interview.
