At the start of this year, I made the executive decision to seriously curb my impulsive purchases and actually save up for the worthwhile wardrobe investments that will outlast trends and outsmart seasons. It's definitely easier said than done, but this year, I'm setting out to make my closet stronger and last much longer.
I know I'm not the only one feeling this way, either. We're reaching a point in fashion where many of us are experiencing trend fatigue, and while I personally don't foresee trends ever ceasing to exist, I think the answer to this exhaustion is twofold: narrowing in on a personal style that isn't so easily swayed by fleeting trends and being a pickier shopper—a much pickier shopper. For me, that means I'm focused on building a wardrobe that's timeless and trend agnostic and, most importantly, feels like me.
When it comes to shopping, I'm navigating things with a "fewer but better" mindset, and now that spring's new arrivals are finally hitting the market, I figured I'd share what I'm currently eyeing in case you, too, want to shop like me. With that, here are the 30 best investment buys I'm prioritizing for spring 2023. They're cool, they're classic, and they're designed to last.
Khaite
The Seneca Wedge Sandals
The shoes that have occupied 90% of my thoughts for the past two months.
By Malene Birger
Beige Alanis Trench Coat
My hunt for the perfect slightly oversize camel-colored trench has only just begun, yet a clear favorite has already emerged.
Gucci
Horsebit 1995 Shoulder Bag
Inspired by an archival style from 1955, Gucci's Horsebit style is reminiscent of the neat, elegant lines of the era.
Almina Concept
Oversized Long Sleeve Shirt
Because it's never not a good time to invest in one.
Ralph Lauren
Turn-Lock Skinny Leather Belt
It does all the accessorizing for you.
Zara
Cotton Midi Dress
This Zara dress became a best seller minutes after it dropped. And considering the site is home to plenty of bolder, trendier pieces, the fact that this simple midi resonated with so many shoppers is telling.
Reformation
Jayde High Rise Denim Midi Skirt
By now, chances are you're shopping for a denim maxi skirt (as we all are). I like this tailored dark-wash style that looks quite elevated.
GAP
Modern Mockneck Tank Top
Turtlenecks might not be on your warm-weather shopping list, but this sleeveless '90s knit is putting up a strong argument that they should be.
Oliver Peoples x Khaite
Cat-Eye Acetate and Gold-Tone Sunglasses
These are an investment for a pair of sunglasses, to be sure, but they're your ticket to achieving Khaite's certifiable cool-girl aura.
Abercrombie
Fitch
Strapless Linen-Blend Midi Dress
Tube dresses are a major trend this season and it's a style I won't be getting tired of anytime soon.
H&M
Mules
I just know the cost per wear on these $30 kitten heels would be in the negative.
Levi's
501 '90s Straight Leg Jeans
From the wash to the just-relaxed-enough fit, these are everything I want in a pair of jeans.
Pixie Market
Dominique Wire Bustier Top
Pixie Market just dropped a white version of its viral bustier top just in time for spring.
Jenny Bird
Florence Earrings
I'm a big fan of Jenny Bird's cool and long-lasting jewelry. These oblong drop earrings have become my staples recently.
Norma Kamali
Maria Draped Satin Mini Dress
Do your closet a favor and get yourself a little '90s-like slip dress.
Mango
Side-Slit Satin Dress
I loathe shopping for wedding guest dresses that are likely to only be worn once, but this pretty long-sleeve number actually has serious closet-staple potential.
Mango
Buttons Suit Waistcoat
It seems waistcoats are sticking around this year, and I'm not mad about it.
H&M
Ribbed Pencil Skirt
Meet the base to so many cool spring outfits.
Zara
Satin Effect Dress
The simplicity of this is perfection.
Tory Burch
Runway Ballet Flats
Tory Burch is all anyone in our fashion office can talk about right now—starting with these flats in spring's It color, chili-pepper red.
Mas
Garden Tote
If quiet-luxury bags are your thing, you're going to want to get in on emerging label Mas, founded by Hermès and The Row alum Mary Philippe. This elevated everyday tote is just oozing with a nonchalant feel.
Agolde
Pinch Waist High Rise Kick Jeans
Five years later, these are still the holy-grail jeans I'll never get rid of.
Christopher Esber
Veiled Draped Silk Chiffon Cropped Top
When I tell you I gasped… Here's proof that not everything in a forever wardrobe has to be plain or ultra-simple. I love the idea of wearing this gauzy top with everything from silk skirts to baggy denim.
Reformation
Lucy Skirt
And I'd style it just like the Ref model did.
Frye
Harness 12R Boots
Moto boots may be trending right now, but the quality and craftsmanship you get from a brand like Frye will last much longer.
J.Crew
Hinge Cuff Bracelet
A simple addition that will make every outfit look very "spring 2023."
Intimately
Clean Lines Long Sleeve
Well-made basics, like this layering top, truly are the backbone of a strong wardrobe.
Banana Republic
Jacqui Pleated Maxi Dress
Come summer, you'll be living in this easy linen number.
Zara
Vented Poplin Shirt
The sleeve vents really take this simple shirt to the next level.
J.Crew
Classic Belt
Owning a classic belt like this could mean never having to shop for another.
