Kate Middleton Wore the Only Controversial Shoe Trend That's Royalty-Approved

There's more to Kate Middleton's shoe collection than nude pumps. Black ankle boots, classic sneakers, and block-heel sandals are all present and accounted for, but you probably won't find most of the current crop of controversial shoe trends: flip-flops, clunky sport sandals, and high platforms, to name a few. But there is one controversial shoe trend that's actually royalty-approved, and that's wedge heels (which have had a history of quickly going out of style in the past).

We've been covering the wedge shoe trend a lot lately, especially since celebs like Sienna Miller and Jennifer Aniston have been wearing it, and everyone seems to have an opinion about it (including the queen, who is rumored to not be a fan of the style). All of this said, Middleton chose to wear the most classic of wedge shoes: espadrilles, which are also a French-girl favorite. She wore the nude-colored shoes with a ruffled midi dress for a visit to a photography workshop for kids in England. The wedges gave the dress much more of a boho feel than her signature nude pumps would have, and it was perfectly appropriate for the occasion.

Last but not least, we'd be remiss not to point out that Meghan Markle is also a fan of espadrilles, and Middleton also wore the style to a garden event in May. See what we mean by royalty-approved? Scroll on the shop the classic yet controversial trend for yourself.
