Our Research Shows 2005 Was Actually the Peak Year for Kate Moss's Style
The likes of Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner are spearheading a '00s style renaissance with many a controversial item from the time. However, a decade later, there's one thing about noughties style that we still can't get enough of, and that's Kate Moss. The '00s might have been a turbulent time in the supermodel's personal and professional lives as she navigated several scandals surrounding her relationship with Pete Doherty, but this was also the time when Mossy wardrobe mania reached its peak.
According to our calculations, 2005 was the best year for Kate's style, as this was when she wore that gold Lurex minidress with Hunter Boots to Glastonbury (still obsessed), was photographed in Notting Hill in her red polka-dot dress and ballet pumps, and made T-shirts and waistcoats cool. Admittedly we aren't ready to wear a skinny scarf and grey waistcoat any time soon, but it is a look we'll always be ever so fond of. Keep scrolling to see Kate Moss's epic '00s style—and let us know if you agree that 2005 was the best year for her wardrobe.
Style Notes: This outfit Kate Moss wore in Notting Hill in 2005 is perhaps one of her most iconic as it incorporates all of her signature pieces. Skinny jeans? White vest top? Waistcoat? Black ballet pumps? Skinny rocker scarf? In the words of Chandler Bing—could this BE any more Mossy?
Style Notes: At Glastonbury in 2005, Kate wore a gold Lurex minidress with a "Glastonbury Rocks" studded belt and Hunter boots. Kate is the reason everyone now wears Hunters to Glasto.
Style Notes: We bet mostBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing UK readers owned a pair of black leather ballet pumps in the '00s, and this was largely down to Kate Moss, who started wearing Repettos in 2003 and then rarely took them off.
Style Notes: A floaty lemon-hued dress and leopard-print coat shouldn't work together, but this outfit from 2004 is one of the most celebrated Moss looks to date, and it still looks fresh 13 years later.
Style Notes: Polka-dot dresses might be trending big time right now, but in 2005, Kate Moss caused a stir with a '50s-style red-and-white dress. And yes, she was also one of the instigators of the "waist belt" phenomenon.
Style Notes: Kate Moss has never been one to follow conventional style rules, and at the wedding of Bobby Gillespie and Katy England in 2006, she wore a pair of pale green shorts with a matching silk blouse and a trilby with feather adornments.
Style Notes: Kate Moss's first Topshop collaboration launched in 2007, and this is one of the outfits you could definitely see referenced in the collection. Waistcoats, cravats and tailored shorts were Kate's '00s uniform.
Style Notes: At the Topshop show in 2006 (ahead of her collaboration with the high-street brand), Kate looked effortless in flared jeans, a grey T-shirt and a brown suede belt. Eleven years later, we want to wear this exact look.
Style Notes: We still can't stop thinking about the gold-chain necklace Kate wore in New York in 2005 with a black jersey slip dress and black ballet pumps.
