Kate Moss Has Worn Ballet Flats Since the '90s—See How She Styled Them Yesterday

Many of us would cringe at what we wore in the '90s, but not Kate Moss. Her career skyrocketed in that decade and she certainly dressed the part, looking impossibly cool whether she was on the red carpet or at the airport. Although her style has evolved over the years, she has kept one wardrobe element consistent: ballet flats

I did some digging and found one particularly chic example of how Moss wore the shoe trend in the '90s. In 1995, she was photographed at a Calvin Klein event in a simple black sweater, white mini skirt, and ballet flats. Cut to 2020, and Moss is still wearing ballet flats with skirts—but the hemlines are a tad longer. Pictured here at just 21 years old, Kate Moss was already climbing the fashion industry ranks in 1995. I would eagerly recreate this minimalist outfit today.

This week, Kate Moss wore her signature ballet flats with a leather skirt and army jacket, proving that the shoe staple's popularity will never fade.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
