Katie Holmes Wore 2020's Biggest Sweater Trend With 2020's Biggest Boot Trend

Everyone's favorite New Yorker Katie Holmes knows a good basic when she sees one. Just take a look at our many, many stories about her if you need further proof. Especially this year, her outfits have consisted primarily of everyday pieces, hence the acute interest in what she wears these days—replicating her looks for yourself is actually pretty feasible.

Which brings me to her most recent outfit, which is a quintessential fall look (because New York has real seasons). What stood out to me about Holmes' casual combination is that her sweater and boots are both as on-trend this season as it gets. Specifically, she wore a polo-neck sweater with a pair of lug-sole ankle boots, and added a classic camel coat and ecru jeans to the mix. So many basics, folks.

Collared sweaters have really dominated the knitwear scene this fall and lug soles have all but replaced heels for the time being. While the style we're seeing the most is Chelsea lug-sole boots, lace-ups like Holmes' are sure to ramp up as winter approaches too.
