Inspired by Mariah Carey's Cribs Episode, This Shoe Collab Is Epic
I trust Avigail Collins implicitly. She's the super-stylist behind some of the most iconic looks from Rihanna and Kim Kardashian West, and (bragging alert!) she'sBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing UK's regular columnist. But there's more: Here we have an industry insider who can spot a trend before it's even reached the horizon. So when I noticed that her latest fashion venture included a heavy dose of diamanté-anklet action, it seemed important to revisit a long-forgotten '90s trend immediately.
Avigail's shoe collaboration with cult footwear brand Liudmila (founded by Kuwait native Najeeba Hayat) offers up punchy Garage princess stilettos, mules and flats in saccharine sweet satins and pink ginghams, each arriving on your feet with a set of blingy crystal anklets for extra party-girl oomph. However, we all know the coolest way to wear such fancy hot-steppers is casually, with a pair of ripped up jeans or those basic Adidas track pants.
"I fell in love with the brand as soon as I saw their fur mules," Avigail tells me. "After months of Instagram mutual love and appreciation, Najeeba's PR company introduced us, as they thought we would make a dreamy collab, and the rest is history." How right they were. Keep reading to see the shoes in action, shop them yourself and find out just how Mariah Carey influenced the whole thing…
WHO WHAT WEAR UK: Who and what has inspired this collection?
AVIGAIL COLLINS: All those '90s R&B classics that when you hear you can't help but dance and sing along to every word. Also, Mariah Carey's Cribs episode played a big part.
WWW UK: Do you have a feeling about which pair are going to be the most popular?
AC: The gingham Boy Is Mine mules with the anklet is proving to be. It's great, as you can wear the anklet with any of your other shoes or trainers, too, so it's a good investment.
WWW UK: You've made me want to wear diamanté anklets with everything—how did that idea come about, and what do you like about it?
AC: I've always loved them, and they really reminded us of that '90s glam bling era. Most people have tuned into the '90s grunge vibe, but we wanted nostalgic sparkle all the way!
