The 5 London Fashion Week Trends You Can Take Away Today
London is full of surprises. Not the lavish kind that perhaps the American superbrands can stage, but meaningful moments that become little fashion legends passed down through the editorial generations. Like Chalayan staging a show in Sadler's Wells theatre where models ripped their clothes apart to reveal an explosion of foil confetti. Or Molly Goddard staging a jolly dinner party in the middle of her runway so that the tulle frocks didn't go to waste and the models could get all bacchanalian in the middle of the day. Very British, non?
Or how about Roksanda dedicating an entire look to the late designer Richard Nicoll in a shade of blue specifically developed in his memory with Pantone? Perhaps we will talk for years to come about the energetic new designers at Fashion East. Or Charlotte Olympia producing a black-and-white mini-movie, An Accessory to Murder (get it?), screened at the Curzon Mayfair.
But these happenings wouldn't be half as great without flippin' excellent clothes, and the city didn't let us down on that front. London's best design talent offered up many a fresh idea and more than a few hot tickets with street style star stamped all over them. We think you'll like them so much you'll want to shop them now. So if you can't wait until A/W 17, here are LFW's big trends and some great pieces you can buy now.
1. all that glitters is… silver!
Clockwise from top left: Emilia Wickstead, Osman, Halpern, Molly Goddard.
Magpies, rejoice: Next season is all about sparkle. It came in many forms (including lamé, chainmail and Lurex), but our favourites were a slew of silver sequin pieces. From sequined tights worn under cotton frocks at Molly Goddard to the all-out Bowie-ness of Osman's one-shouldered jumpsuit, there's a level of shimmer and shine for everyone. Although we'd recommend that you go hard or go home.
2. duvet-day coats
L-R: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Roksanda, Eudon Choi
This winter's big puffer coat trend shows no sign of abating. In fact, the cosiness and degree of puffiness go one step further: Preen's girls were practically taking their vintage eiderdowns into the outside world. Fashion hugs are the best hugs.
3. sofa, so floral
L-R: Erdem, Christopher Kane, Joseph
Another A/W season, another set of florals to be entranced by. London's designers took cues from interiors rather than nature and cooked up a series of brocades, jacquards and tapestries in rich, homely hues. In short: They were all very pretty, but slightly edgy, thanks to their appropriation from stately homes.
4. purple power
L-R: Mulberry, J.W.Anderson, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi
Pink sure makes the street style photographers wink (and everyone's been wearing it on the streets of fashion week), but designers have moved onto mauve, lilac and punchy, deep purples. And just look at how dedicated they are to this new hue: It's safe to wear it from head to toe if you dare.

5. hopping mad shoes
Clockwise from top left: Anya Hindmarch, Mary Katrantzou, Burberry, Toga, Simone Rocha
We like the idea that a pair of shoes can maketh the outfit, and it's a trend that's already widespread in influencer circles. From furry flats (Simone Rocha's Cousin It creations are going to be popular) to highly decadent mules or insane sock boots, there's a fantastic footwear option for everyone. And the best news? There are plenty of shoes available now that tap into the idea.
