We Went Street Style Spotting in London—These 7 Winter Outfits Wowed Us
Nowadays there’s no shortage of inspiration when it comes to fashion. Long gone are the days you had to patiently anticipate print issues and dog ear unattainable pieces. The fashion realm is gradually becoming more accessible and inspired. A few times a year runways from London to Copenhagen serve us with a delectable forecast and equally inspiring are the get-ups of the attendees flitting to and from said shows. Ever informed, they come dressed to the nines, in trend-forward pieces, creatively styled and their outfits reflect pieces that’ll be dominating the fashion scene in months to come.
There’s something inexplicably authentic about street style which makes it a great reference point for day-to-day dressing. Although fashion week styling is more editorial (and understandably so) it bridges the gap between high fashion and the everyday fashion-conscious, looking for style inspiration.
This year has been a fruitful year for fashion. Between the resurgence of suave noughties pieces, contemporary styling elements and witnessing the permanent standing of certain fashion pieces (I’m looking at you, scarf coat), we’re ending the year on a high.
Scroll on to see the London street-style looks that have caught our attention this season, and then shop all the pieces you may need to re-create the 'fits at home.
1. Scarf Jacket + Polka Dot Mini Dress + Riding Boots
Style Notes: Scarf coats are the fashion set's firm favourite when it comes to outerwear. Pair yours with a pretty mini dress and knee-high boots, adding tights when the temperature drops down further.
Shop the look:
Toteme spearheaded the scarf coat trend and it's now a global fashion phenomenon.
Straight from the runway.
Look to Tory Burch for understated, timeless accessories.
Last year we saw the rise of riding boots and they're proving just as popular this winter.
2. Shearling Jacket + Semi Sheer Dress
Style Notes: Make a LBD work all year round by adding smart layers, like a shearling coat or jacket. We love how timeless this looks feels, thanks to the addition of simple accessories like barely-there heels and a black tote.
Shop the look:
3. Classic Camel + Maxi Slip Dress
Style Notes: This may just be our favourite. A classic camel coat is a staple that nearly every fashion person has in their winter capsule wardrobe, and here it is style effortlessly with a slip dress and simple black boots. Chic, comfy and elegant, all wrapped up in one.
Shop the look:
Hush's rebrand is all kinds of wonderful.
Demellier is on par with designers with five times its pricepoint. You can't dispute both the quality and design.
4. Oversized Scrunchie + Statement Earrings
Style Notes: Londoners are not just wearing coats and boots this season, they're also leaning heavily into statement accessories, too. Adding fabulous earrings and hair pieces to a simple blazer or jeans-and-jumper look can instantly add something special.
Shop the look:
Whilst 2023's apparel has been stripped back, more us more jewels are having quite the moment.
An oversized scrunchie will lend a playful element to winter outfits. I bet 2023 Carrie Bradshaw would eat her words!
5. Embroidered Jacket + Straight-Leg Jeans
Style Notes: If there's one thing we're certain of, it is that London fashion people love denim. Here, a fashion week guest styles classic blue jeans with a printed jacket to give it a French feel. We're here for it!
Shop the look:
The floral stitching is very sweet.
Head in the direction of Massimo Dutti for premium-looking bags on the high-street.
6. Khaki Faux Fur Jacket + Bandeau Leather Dress
Style Notes: Another dress-and-coat look that lives in our mind rent free. Leather is always in style, but this winter it is taking to the stage like never before. Whether you choose a statement dress like above or go back to your trusty trousers, we suggest styling the material with other contrasting fabrications like faux-fur, wool and velvet.
Shop the look:
What a way to make the bandeau neckline winter-appropriate. This dress would make a stunning Christmas party outfit for those with a pared-back style.
I've extended my neutral colour palette to include deep olive hues, especially if it comes in the form of sumptuous faux fur.
7. Trench Coat + Maxi Denim Skirt
Style Notes: I love the versatility of this look. Simple but still polished, it would work for the office, date night, dinner with friends and the weekend. Plus, it proves that the denim skirt you purchased earlier this year really was a great investment.
Shop the look:
Raey's column maxi has been highly sought after all year. It's currently 30% off with Matches' Black Friday discount!
This washed black overcoat disrupts the typical outerwear we revert to this time of the year.
