10 Candles Every Fashion Insider Owns
I'm fully aware that buying luxury candles is quite literally burning money, but does that stop me (or millions of others who are happy to drop lots of cash on them)? No. They make my apartment look fancy and they make me happy, so it's money well spent in my opinion. (Don't forget that you can repurpose the jars for chic storage of makeup brushes and pens.)
Truth be told, my candle obsession is fueled by the stylish people I encounter and follow on Instagram as well as the cool retailers that stock them. It's rare that I just wander into a shop and find a new, under-the-radar candle. I seek out the stylish luxury candles that everyone else has, and will even admit to having ordered a few online prior to ever even smelling them myself (it usually works out).
Ready to find your new favorite candle? Keep scrolling to shop the 10 candles that every fashion insider has in their house or apartment (trust me—I've been keeping score).
Byredo
Byredo candles are ridiculously chic and minimal, which is something that many fashion people appreciate in their home décor. Not only that, they smell even better than they look.
Popular scents: Bibliothèque, Burning Rose, Tree House, Cotton Poplin
Ciré Trudon
Fun fact: Ciré Trudon is the oldest candle manufacturer in the world (so it clearly knows what it's doing). If you're seeking a European vibe in your living space and want a scent that carries even when it isn't lit, invest in one of these.
Popular scents: Ernesto, Cyrnos, Odalisque, Abd El Kader
Boy Smells
Boy Smells candles is one of the most Instagrammable and most affordable brands on this list, so fashion insiders tend to stock up (and they tend to sell out).
Popular scents: Kush, LES, Cedar Stack, Cinderose
Le Labo
Le Labo Santal 26 is one of those instantly recognizable scents that somehow never gets old, but that's not the only scent that fashion insiders gladly part with $75 with. I've yet to smell a Le Labo candle that isn't intoxicatingly good.
Popular scents: Santal 26, Laurier 62, Petit Grain 21
Diptyque
There isn't much to say about Diptyque candles that hasn't already been said. There was a time when this was the only luxury candle brand I cared about (I've since branched out). The candles are just perfectly elegant and covetable, and they make the best gifts.
Popular scents: Baies, Feu de Bois, Roses, Figuier
D.S. Durga
D.S. Durga is a slightly newer addition to the luxury candle craze. If ever there were a candle brand that had the ability to instantly make a room look cooler, it's this one. Plus, the descriptive scent names are genius.
Popular scents: Portable Fireplace, Spirit Lamp, Holy Ficus
Overose
You can spot these pretty pink candles from a mile away (and probably regularly spot them in your Instagram feed). The brand first became popular because of its good looks, but people keep coming back to it because of its unique scents.
Popular scents: Nudesse, Valkiria, Anamorphine
Sunday Forever
With names like Pink Gold, Rich, and Morning, it's easy to see how Sunday Forever candles set themselves apart from the pack. Every candle seems to fit a mood or occasion. Plus, you can pick up some crystals or sage while you're at it (the brand sells those too).
Popular scents: Kittyrose, Coconut, 11:11
Jo Malone
Jo Malone is one of the OG luxury candle brands, and even reportedly counts Kate Middleton as a fan. These candles are a staple in the homes of people who appreciate classic elegance.
Popular scents: Red Roses, Wood Sage Sea Salt, Lime Basil Mandarin, Orange Blossom
Maison Louis Marie
Another affordable find that repeatedly sells out, Maison Louis Marie is a go-to for lovely, simple candles that look and smell like they belong in a French girl's apartment.
Popular scents: No.04 Bois de Balincourt, No. 02 Le Long Fond, No.03 L'Etang Noir
Next up, the best and worst things to pack, according to a (very) frequent flier.
