Mary-Kate Olsen's Unexpected Red Carpet Shoes Are Ridiculously Chic

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen rarely make red carpet appearances, so when they do, you can bet we're more than a little excited to see what they're wearing. Attending the Youth America Grand Prix 20th Anniversary Gala in New York City on Thursday, the designers wore their trademark all-black looks, including a coat and top-handle bag for Mary-Kate and a blazer, wide-leg trousers, and clutch for Ashley.

The only deviation from their signature aesthetic? Mary-Kate's unexpected pop of color in the form of bright red kitten heel pumps. Her Manolo Blahnik Red Maysale 50 Suede Pumps ($695) decidedly stole the show in a sea of noir pieces, and we love her for breaking her own all-black style rule. Plus, kitten heels are a major spring shoe trend we've been talking about incessantly, so it's an especially of-the-moment choice from a celebrity who prefers to shun trends in favor of classic items. Oh, and did we mention you can try the trend for a mere $40? Scroll down to see what Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen wore for a rare red carpet appearance in NYC and shop similar red kitten heels for yourself.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
