8 Spring Trends I'm Glad to Part With and the 8 I'll Be Wearing in 2026 Instead
While I'm stuck dodging snow piles on the streets of NYC, my mood board has already begun to embrace spring 2026. I might be in coats and cashmere now, but in a few weeks, the snow will have melted, layers will be dropped, and trends will have shifted. This year, fashion people are avoiding what was popular last spring, so if you want to be in the know, keep scrolling for a download on the in and out spring 2026 trends.
Funnily enough, dated trends with vintage roots are popular again, classics are getting a pastel washing, beloved prints are undergoing an evolution, and a royal color will reign supreme.
Ahead, see the eight dated spring trends I'm happy are over and the eight I'm replacing them with in 2026.
Out: Scarf Belts
In: Brooches
If you haven't been on Pinterest or Instagram in the past few weeks, you may be shocked to find that this retro jewelry trend is popular again. It would appear that fashion people are rummaging through their grandmothers' jewelry chests to find their best brooches. Worn on a lapel, to clasp a sweater, or as a pendant, this antique accessory aligns perfectly with the elegant vintage aesthetic the style set loves so much.
Out: Capris
In: Balloon Pants
As spring approaches, I've found myself leaning away from the capri pant trend that dominated last year. With snow still on the ground in NYC, I'm more attracted to a full-length pair of trousers. Balloon pants are just what I'm looking for. Models on the runway are wearing them with a draped blouse, slingback heels, and an oversize tote. You can find me doing the same come March.
Out: Polka Dots
In: Dalmatian Print
The dalmatian-print trend has quickly pushed aside last year's print of choice, replacing it with a more streamlined version. Don't be all Cruella about it; it's faux. This print—which you can find on pumps, totes, and tops—may be a little out-there, but I promise you'll be the talk of the town. With an influx of spotted prints on the market, you can find my favorites below.
Out: Millennial Gray
In: Royal Purple
As seen on the Valentino S/S 26 runway, royal purple is a spring must-have. If you are a frequent WWW reader, you'll know spring 2026 is all about unique color combos. IMO, this posh purple would make the best partner. Pair it with mustard, like the outfit above, or opt for playful teal.
Our editors can't get enough of this rich violet, from the J.Crew cashmere V-neck to the luxury Khaite Mini Lotus Tote. I'm excited for what spring 2026 will bring.
Out: Suede Sneakers
In: Satin Sneakers
Move over, suede. This is the shiny fabric fashion people are wearing on sneakers this spring. Satin sneakers are the lightweight spring alternative to the heavy fall suede style. Wear them with cigarette jeans, poplin skirts, and Bermuda shorts for a preppy look. Scroll on to shop the best satin sneakers, from Dries Van Noten to Zara.
Out: Wool Crewnecks
In: Poplin Shirting
From the Chanel S/S 26 runway, Look 17 features a pink dual-chest pocket shirt with "Chanel" embroidered on the bottom left worn with a brooch, a maroon high-low skirt, a clutch, and high-vamp heels. It's number one on my list of outfits to re-create for spring 2026. That means I'm in need of a crisp button-down ASAP. Level up this wardrobe staple by opting for a pastel colorway, or stick to classic white and change up the styling.
Out: Rose Gold
In: Mixed Metals
I've been in love with mixed metals ever since I saw this picture of Coco Schiffer styling the trend. It's effortless, it's chic, and it makes the most of your jewelry collection. I used to feel that every metal tone in an outfit had to match, from hardware on shoes to earrings, but taking the stress out of matching and just wearing jewelry I like regardless of its finish brings the fun and energy back into getting ready.
Out: Block Heels
In: High-Vamp Pumps
Fashion people are embracing casual heels, and the best way to do that is with high-vamp pumps. "Vamp" is the technical term for the top portion of the upper of a shoe. On high-vamp pumps, the leather sits higher on the top of the foot toward the ankle. WWW associate fashion editor Nikki Chwatt styles her high-vamp pumps in an early spring 'fit during NYFW: sheer tights, a leather midi skirt, a cashmere scarf, a leather jacket, and a top-handle bag.
