The 6 Basics Michelle Obama Has Relied on This Year
I don't know about you, but I've been thoroughly enjoying seeing Michelle Obama's real style come to light post White House. Now able to dress outside of the confines of a politics, Obama has been showing off more creative outfits in recent years. Of course, there was her barnstorming fashion tour—er, I mean, book tour—of 2019, which made many a headline. But in 2020, we've been able to witness Obama's more laidback style.
Hard at work on her podcast in recent months, Obama has embraced the casualness that an audio-only medium affords. Translation: She's been wearing lots of comfortable pieces, including flowy cardigans, loose-fitting shirts, and more. That said, she is still doing Zoom interviews for television, so she's been pulling out subtly statement-making items for those appearances. Scroll down to shop the basics Michelle Obama has relied on this year.
1. Short-Sleeve Button-Downs
I promise you'll get a ton of use out of this classic style.
Bring this top into fall and winter with the addition of wide-leg trousers.
2. Plaid Shirts
I'll be buying this in a size larger than normal for a laidback look.
This combines two basics Michelle wears: plaid shirts and short-sleeve button-downs.
3. Colorful Crewneck Sweaters
Alert: This is a 100% cashmere sweater on major sale. You know what to do.
4. Long Cardigans
This lightweight cardidan is perfect for end-of-summer weather.
5. Delicate Gold Jewelry

Next, Kamala Harris has been wearing this signature accessory for 35 years.
Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
