The 5 Trends Dominating the Street Style Pictures in Milan This Week

While Milan Fashion Week usually feels like a sharp contrast to London in terms of street style outfit trends, it really does feel like everybody's toned down. Of course, this is in the street style sense: Outfits will always be for show rather than real life. And yet, overall they just feel a bit more refreshingly calm than in past years.

Where the trend of London Fashion Week street style was "non-trend trends," Milan feels similarly classic, despite it usually being the most outlandish. Lots of suits, neutrals, and classic handbag shapes. It really does feel like the years of hyper trends are nearing their end, and people have really come into their own personal style that much more.

If you haven't heard, it was announced over the weekend that Raf Simons will join Prada as a co creative director for the brand, joining Miuccia Prada at the top. This major fashion news, and the excitement with which it was received, confirms something we've felt across fashion month: fashion is reprioritising quality. It just feels like people are really ready to invest in pieces they will love and that will last forever, rather than for a "season."

Of course as long as fashion weeks still exist, there will be always be a few outfit trends that emerge among the showgoers and style set walking about. We've spotted five that we feel we can work into our existing wardrobes. One is rather rogue, one colour was predicted, and an old It bag has made an overwhelming return. Keep scrolling to see the street style trends from Milan Fashion Week and see if any fit into your style.

TROUSER SHORTS

We've started with the shorts because it gives us great joy to see early signs of warm-weather dressing. We've dubbed the shorts spotted across Milan Fashion Week trouser shorts because they are more serious than your average pair of shorts. They have the gravitas of a pair of trousers, and they pair well with a suit jacket. They hit right above or around the knee, and they mean business.

2. PRADA BOWLING BAG

It looks like Prada was feeling generous this season, as nearly 12 (our count) influencers were spotted wearing the 20th anniversary version of the famous bowling bag to the show. The shape is a house classic that goes back to the 1990s and the famous Angela Lindvall ads. Judging by the diverse styles of the people toting them to Milan Fashion Week, it's the kind of classic bag that goes with nearly every kind of personal style.

BLUE HUES

If you were tuned in at the start of 2020, you'll know that Pantone's Colour of the Year is blue, and here we are. Blue is trending! How do they do it? Across MFW were various commitments to the blue hues, from full blue suits to accents of blue. We particularly love the blue/brown/beige combo if you're looking to try this with the pieces you already own.

BEIGE TROUSERS

Beige remains the firm favourite among the street style set at all fashion weeks, but in Milan, we particularly loved seeing how people styled their beige trousers. Such a classic piece, beige trousers work best a little bit oversize with a good belt. We love how Linda Tol paired hers with her Miu Miu white blouse.

TIES

Ties! Just straight-up classic ties. This feels rogue, and we weren't predicting it, but here we are. They've been worn in various Annie Hall esque suit looks, but we have to say the beige monochrome tie outfit with a half-zip jumper is a real winner. If you're keen to try this, we'd advise looking in your local charity shop or vintage store.
