I Hate Wedges, but I'm Down for Wedges 2.0
Personally, I've never been a fan of wedges. I think that's mainly because I was scarred by the overwhelming number of girls who wore them to every event while I was in uni. I just never understood why out of all the shoes in the world, wedges were the ones they chose as their go-tos. Well, I started noticing a shoe style that's the perfect combination of a mule and a wedge (with little hints of a flatform) combined, and I am so into it. The second I spotted a few on one of my favourite online retailers, Need Supply Co., I thought, when did wedges get a complete makeover?
This makeover resulted in a wedge that is sleek, minimal and forward. Basically, it's the total opposite of all the tasteless wedge-and-minidress combinations I was forced to endure for so many years. Wedges 2.0 are lower to the ground, offering maximum comfort coupled with the eye-catching shape that promises to serve as a fun conversation starter no matter what. So for those of you out there who know about my unhealthy aversion to wedges, you have no basis for calling me out when you see me sporting a pair of these—they're different. So, so different.
Brands like Trademark and Intentionally Blank make a mean pair, as do Rachel Comey and Tibi. Since this trend is just getting its feet on the ground, we can expect more fast-fashion retailers like Zara and H&M to pick up on the new style any day now.
