Everyone Is Wearing These Shoes in NYC
If there is one piece that can totally transform an outfit, it’s shoes. They can turn a simple outfit of jeans and a T-shirt into something that is street style worthy or even dress down a statement piece. I personally follow shoe trends closely, as I rely on them for their outfit-altering powers. This is why I’ve been studying all of the best shoe moments from New York Fashion Week. After seeing countless styles snapped on the street style scene, it became instantly clear that there are some runaway trends from NYFW.
From statement boots to the new color that is appearing everywhere to the tricky shoe trend that’s quickly taking over 2019, you’ll want to add each of these to your closet. Ahead, see how fashion insiders are styling these five cool shoe trends, and then shop my edit of styles to add to your shopping cart.
GREEN IS THE UNEXPECTED COLOR THAT'S EVERYWHERE
Okay, maybe the dominance of green on the street style scene isn't the biggest shock, after all. With the rise of slime green last year, it was only a matter of time before the color took over shoes.
Who What Wear editor in chief, Kat Collings, is leaning hard into the green footwear trend.
Her exact Altuzarra shoes are now sold out, but on-the-rise brand Paris Texas makes a similar pair that I love.
Pastel shoes will be where it's at this spring.
KNEE-HIGH BOOTS INSTEAD OF OTK STYLES
Over-the-knee boots have reigned supreme at fashion month when the temperatures hit cold temps, but this season, we're seeing knee-highs take over instead. Roomy styles with slightly slouchy silhouettes are everywhere.
These boots from The Row have become a fixture on the street style scene.
Faux croc is the luxe trend that will be around for awhile.
PLATFORMS, PLATFORMS, PLATFORMS
Platforms are really having a moment right now. I started to see platform shoes pop at the beginning of the year, but with their many iterations at NYFW, they're set to explode.
A platform version of Dr. Martens combat boot is an easy way to transition into the trend.
Or if you're really ready for platforms, just got for it with a supersize version.
WESTERN BOOTS ARE ALIVE AND WELL
Last fall, we saw the rise of cowboy boots. Wondering if the trend has legs? Looking at the many outfits styled with Western boots at NYFW, it certainly does.
This sleek silhouette is a cool, modern take on Western boots.
Finished with a metal-toe detail.
If you prefer more traditional cowboy boots, style them with relaxed jeans and a polished leather coat.
SOPHISTICATED WHITE SLINGBACKS
What are we seeing in the world of heels? Polished slingbacks that tie together everything from skirt outfits to looks with leather pants.
Here's a way to add slingbacks to an already-polished outfit for a sophisticated look.
Or, you can add them to finish a more offbeat look.
