We're Fashion Editors—Here's What We Saw, Wore, Ate, and Did During NYFW

And just like that, we're back in the swing of things with fashion month. As always, New York Fashion Week has kicked things off, and while the February shows usually come with calmer environments and less buzzed-about moments, the week is already shaping up to be particularly noteworthy. Helmut Lang opened with Creative Director Peter Do's signature sharp tailoring, and excitingly, Thom Browne is set to close out the week, no doubt bringing us a flurry of celebrity moments in the front row. Between the two is a lineup of established New York standbys and a healthy influx of rising talent that promise a glimpse into the best of what's to come for the fall 2024 season.

Those who attend the shows know this to be all too true: The days seem to stretch on forever, but the week flies by in a split second. What better way to dish on everything that happened throughout it than through the lens of our own editors? Over the next seven days, we plan to do just that. I tasked each attendee on our fashion team with reporting on the highlights of each day, from their favorite runway look to the pop culture moment that everyone was talking about to what they ate, drank, and wore. Continue on to read teamBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing 's fashion-week highlight reel and keep checking back for our daily updates.

Day 7

Eliza Huber, Editor

Brandon Maxwell fall 2024 runway

Favorite runway look of the day:

Easy—the tan bomber jacket and matching pencil skirt from Brandon Maxwell. The pairing, which was styled alongside bright-red ankle-strap pumps that provided the perfect amount of color to the monochromatic duo, is me to a T. I love the sportiness of the jacket paired with the elegant put-togetherness of the pencil skirt. I think that kind of juxtaposition perfectly displays the way that modern women want to dress. We're not just one thing, and we don't want to look just one way.

The trend you're already predicting:

I've been seeing monochrome gray looks—some might call it fashion's groutfit—everywhere over the last few months, both on the fall/winter 2024 menswear runways and on the womenswear ones. The one I spotted today at Bevza further proved to me that the formerly uninspiring shade is readying itself for a renaissance.

The best pop culture moment:

After last night's Beyoncé spotting at Luar, I feel like no one even bothered to post about celebs or influencers at shows. Nothing was going to top that.

The best thing you ate or drank:

Whenever I'm free and in Tribeca, I always pop into my favorite bakery called Crispy Heaven for lunch. It's a bakery, so of course, you'll find all types of bread there, but my favorite thing to order when I'm not hungry enough to get an entire chorizo pizza is the veggie salad, which is just fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers with feta and the most delicious, refreshing dressing. It comes with a whole basket of bread and fresh butter. So yeah, I went there for lunch after my Tibi resee, and it was glorious.

What you wore:

I was in more than a little bit of a rush this morning, so I threw on a tried-and-true combination of mine: a navy-blue satin slip dress from Massimo Dutti that I styled with my favorite black Liberowe jacket that features black velvet buttons and pockets. I've really been loving navy and black together. I added fishnet tights, black Prada kitten heels, and my black Tory Burch Lee Radziwill Cat Eye Bag, plus my trusty Nanushka cashmere coat since it was literally 19° out.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Honestly, the best part of the day was getting to see fellow WWW editor and Staud superfan Jasmine Fox-Suliaman preview the fall collection. I swear every new bag, dress, and pair of boots was made for her, and getting to watch her mentally digest it all was just the sort of delight I needed after a long, busy week.

Yusra Siddiqui, Associate Editor

Favorite runway look of the day:

The outerwear at Gabriela Hearst was impeccable, but this dramatic fur-collared coat is something I have not been able to get out of my head. It's a powerful statement piece yet exudes so much elegance. It's all I'd want to wear during this freezing weather.

The trend you're already predicting:

I know we said pops of red were cooling down, but I'm taking accountability and admitting we may have spoken too soon. I loved the fiery-red looks at Proenza Schouler the other day, but today, the red furry coat at Gabriela Hearst piqued my interest yet again. Also, it's all over the street style set! I've already seen at least three people carry red bags, and I smile every time I see them.

The best pop culture moment:

Beyoncé at Luar—need I say more? When my fellow editors dropped the picture of her into our shared photo stream, we immediately went into a texting frenzy. Soon, my entire feed was just Beyoncé. That's just proof that New York Fashion Week isn't dead!

The best thing you ate or drank:

Can I be real for a second? Eating out constantly during fashion week can get expensive, so I premade spinach, feta, and egg-white wraps to have on the go in the mornings. A girl's gotta have her protein when she's running from show to show!

Standout moment from in between the shows:

On a snow day, the reality is that many of us may not make it to some shows. (We're not trying to slip and fall or get sick in the name of fashion.) I think the funniest part of the day was us editors texting each other from our couches or texting midday that it was time to pack it up and go home as the snow started to fall harder. Lovely weather we're having here in New York! Sometimes, amid the chaos, you have to just take it slow. That's the reality of being an editor during fashion week!

Day 5

Anna LaPlaca, Editor

Tory Burch model wears a hooded sweater and leather skirt on the runway

Your favorite runway look of the day:

Tory Burch day is always a highlight among our team, and the designer's fall collection exceeded any of our expectations. There were so many details I loved from this runway, but my favorite look featured a hooded sweater and leather skirt, finished off with a cool sculptural brooch.

The trend you're already predicting:

Mod skirts à la the 1960s! Tory Burch featured a number of structured, knee-length skirts in its collection—as did Sandy Liang in her show the day prior. The decade's retro influence is taking hold this season, and I'm pinpointing these skirts as the key silhouette to know for fall.

The pop culture moment everyone was talking about:

Every editor I ran into was chatting about the new Beyoncé music that just dropped in the morning—two country songs that signal her highly anticipated transition into the genre. Everyone kept saying, "I need to dust off my cowboy hats."

The best thing you ate or drank:

I'd heard nothing but the best about restaurant newcomer The Golden Swan, so I had to stop in to see what all the fuss was about. Set in a three-story townhouse on a quintessential West Village block, its moody, intimate interior was the perfect backdrop to a gossipy catch-up session with two of my favorite editors. Naturally, we ordered one of everything to share, and I'm still thinking about the salmon rillettes—they're a must. I'm picky about martinis but can confirm the restaurant does an excellent dirty gin.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

This was, hands down, my busiest day of the week with shows beginning at 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. Thankfully, I scheduled a Blacklane car ahead of time, and my driver was already waiting for me downstairs with water, phone chargers, and even Wi-Fi that made my morning commute 100% stress-free.

What you wore:

I wore a pinstripe shirt with a silk tie by New York designer Daniella Kallmeyer. I'll admit that I did have to type "how to tie a tie" into Google, but I figured it out after watching a short YouTube video. My first event of the day was actually the Kallmeyer presentation, and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when the designer gave her stamp of approval to my outfit.

Day 4

Kristen Nichols, Associate Director of Special Projects

Altuzarra model walks the runway in a cream cardigan and silk skirt

Your favorite runway look of the day:

Look 10 at Altuzarra—a boxy tweed jacket and sheer skirt paired with pointed leather flats and a sculptural pillbox hat. The look makes me think of the return to elegance we've been tracking in the fashion space in 2024. The salon-style presentation at the Woolworth Building HQ celebrated the brand's 15th anniversary.

The trend you're already predicting:

Hats, hats, hats. From pillbox styles at Altuzarra to soft caps at Fforme, hats are having a moment.

The pop culture moment everyone was talking about:

Outside of NYFW, all eyes were on the Super Bowl, and what athletes and celebs wore played a big part in convos around the big game.

The best thing you ate or drank:

Our fashion team caught up over drinks at The Nines—an editor favorite. The space is designed with red booths and leopard carpet, and a pianist played live music throughout the night. The martinis (served with a sidecar) and fries might be the best in town.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

I've seen many looks on the street style scene styled with leather gloves—especially longer versions—and now, I'm on the hunt for a great pair.

What you wore:

I've been invested in styling sweaters as scarves and layered up two of the same knits. Buying a great sweater in twos has many styling possibilities.

Day 3

Kat Collings, Editor in Chief

Your favorite runway look of the day:

The sheer turtlenecks over button-downs at Proenza blew my mind. We're all pretty familiar with a turtleneck under a button-down, so inverting the formula felt very fresh.

The trend you're seeing everywhere:

So. Many. Capes. And vaguely cape-y things with layered, draped fabric. It's going to be a very cozy fall this year.

The best pop culture moment of the day:

Romy, one half of the band The XX, performed at the reopening of the Gucci store on Wooster.

The best thing you ate or drank:

For lunch today, we hit up Café Chelsea, which was utterly charming and completely packed. The French woman at the bar next to me ordered the croque madame, so I did too, minus the ham.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

I love when I see a custom Bode jacket in the wild. I feel like I get to know something about a perfect stranger, and it's fascinating what people choose to put on their heirloom outerwear.

What you wore:

I wore a knit matching set from Wardrobe.NYC. I had never worn the brand before, and now, I get the hype. The most pertinent style tip is probably the Zara tee I layered under my look for a pop of white. The simple addition makes a world of difference and ties in my shoes.

Day 2

Jasmine Fox-Suliaman, Editor

model walks the Prabal Gurung F24 runway wearing blue satin coat

Your favorite runway look of the day:

My favorite runway look of the day had to be the incredible satin wrap coat look in Prabal Gurung's F/W 24 show. The draping on the coat was divine in and of itself, but when styled with black leather gloves, oversize earrings, and white pumps, it just became downright drool-worthy. In general, his entire collection this season was beautiful.

The trend you're already predicting:

On the beauty front, one trend that's stood out to me is the demise of clean girl beauty. After going backstage to cover Prabal Gurung's F/W 24 show, I was thoroughly convinced we're pivoting into a new era that feels intentionally unpolished. It takes so much energy to cultivate the perfect slicked-back bun or the everyday glow, but with the beauty at Gurung's show, it felt like a permission slip not to be so polished. It was liberation from the ideal beauty standard.

The looks embodied the energy of a chaotic '90s supermodel—that feeling when you've rolled out of bed late and left the house sporting last night's smudged smoky eye and soaking wet hair. Of course, the look was very intentional, as I saw so many makeup artists heaping on layers of mascara and applying ample amounts of hair mousse under a Dyson dryer to achieve the look. Nonetheless, it felt like such a riveting pivot from what we've seen in prior seasons. In terms of fashion, I've noticed the continuation of faux-fur coats. Blame the mob wife aesthetic if you want, but the outerwear trend was present in Helmut Lang's, Kim Shui's, and Prabal Gurung's F/W 24 shows, proving it will be around for the rest of the year.

The best pop culture moment:

I could not scroll through social media without seeing the fashion set talk about Willy Chavarria's and Helmut Lang's F/W 24 collections. They both seemed to be the most buzzed-about runway shows of the day—rightfully so!

The best thing you ate or drank:

After the Prabal Gurung show, I grabbed dinner with one of my favorite Marie Claire editors at the Mediterranean spot Zou Zou's at Hudson Yards. It's one of my favorite spots in the city because it has the best sharable appetizers and a gorgeous interior. My favorite dish on the dinner menu is the caramelized cabbage. It's truly mind-blowing and a must-order if you ever find yourself in need of a delicious dinner in that area.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Before heading to Prabal Gurung to cover backstage for our TikTok, I ran to a few press previews. My favorite stop of the day was at the Black in Fashion Council's showroom. Each year, industry mavericks Lindsay Peoples and Sandrine Charles curate a showroom dedicated to championing rising Black-owned brands in fashion. It's always such a joy to be able to meet new designers, but I particularly love being able to chat with designers who may not always have the platform to put their work out during fashion week. Some of the brands I discovered this season through the showroom that I'm obsessed with are Keeyahri for its unique footwear, Silver Riley for its polished handbags, and Amari Carter for its deconstructed womenswear pieces.

What you wore:

The best thing about fashion week during February is that you can rely on outerwear to do the heavy lifting, and a really good coat is all you need to look great. When it came to planning my look for the first day, I knew I wanted to draw inspiration from Tory Burch's F/W 23 collection by pairing a longline herringbone coat with fishnet tights and black shoes. I found an incredible long coat from Topshop, so I figured I'd let it be a casual-chic look for the day by pairing it with a turtleneck dress and Calzedonia tights. For that final elevated touch, I added attention-grabbing accessories—my Bottega Veneta belt, Maison Margiela Tabi flats, oversize earrings from Christina Caruso, red leather Mango gloves, a ring from Jenny Bird, and a bag from Sonia Rykiel.

Sierra Mayhew, Associate Editor

Christian Siriano model wearing a short black dress on the runway

Your favorite runway look of the day:

This was my first-ever Christian Siriano show, and seeing his eye-catching designs in person was a real treat. A look that I'm dying to snatch off the runway and wear myself is the feather-detailed sweaterdress that made the ultimate statement.

The trend you're already predicting:

Elegance, elegance, elegance. Even designers that tend to lean on the trendy side are switching things up and opting for a more elevated look. Attending a show at the Plaza really echoed this theme, and the outfit I chose to wear was on theme.

The best pop culture moment:

Seeing Jack Harlow get onstage at the YSL Beauty event was incredible.

The best thing you ate or drank:

I ended the evening with a five-course dinner at Carbone courtesy of a collaboration between Quay and Danielle Guizio. From the beloved pizza bread to the rainbow-colored cake at the end, it's a meal I simply won't forget.

Standout moment from in between the shows:

Maybelline popped by my apartment, and it turned into a full-on therapy session. It was a much-needed break from running around and working on my deadlines.

What you wore:

After years of dabbling with trends, I've been leaning toward minimalism lately. However, I still love to experiment with what the fashion people are wearing, and I've been obsessing over the full-skirt trend for quite some time.
