Everything Paris's Best Dressed Are Wearing for Fashion Week and Beyond
As we come to the end of our fashion-month journey of hopping from country to country to see the best that designers have to offer for autumn/winter 2023, we've taken a quick break from looking ahead to focus on the right now. Currently, the Paris streets are filled with some of the most stylish people around, and we've gone on a street style hunt to pinpoint the standout styles that our fashion friends are currently backing.
Unlike our style-spotting travels through New York, London and Milan, the final stop of the fashion-month quartet takes "double it and pass it on" to the next level. In New York and London, we took on new trends with a firm sense of individuality. In Milan, the more ostentatious fashions were celebrated by all, and now in Paris, the fashion crowd is rounding out the adventure by summarising the standout styles of the entire fashion month.
Throughout, you'll find themes of classics with a twist and reworked styles cropping up. For example, the trusty trench coat has been swapped out for a more intriguing version, be it through colour, shape or design. Last year's pleated skirt has been reworked from micro to maxi, and the focus on vintage-style jackets is visibly a focal point. There are more trending styles to take away and make your own, so keep scrolling for all the key buys for spring 2023.
THE COAT: TRENCH
As fashion followers, we know that great staples are the backbone of the most successful wardrobes. And though a classic trench coat will never be passé, this spring jacket has been revamped for a fresher feel. Play with colour, fabrication and shape, like the following leather version, for an of-the-moment feel.
KEY BUY:
THE SKIRT: PLEATED
We've watched pleating crop up time and again over the past few weeks, but now, we have solid confirmation that pleats are back. Unlike the micro iterations of last year, 2023's version has dropped hemlines and gained a versatility that lends it to day or evening styling.
KEY BUY:
THE TROUSERS: LEATHER
The easiest way to add a fresh take to your classic trousers is to turn to a new fabrication. Right now, it's leather. Leather was spotted in all forms throughout the city, but this head-to-toe look is particularly good.
KEY BUY:
THE CO-ORD: DENIM
There's something truly impactful about pulling off a great double-denim look. Though many of us turn to a denim shirt and jeans as the go-to formula, the revival of maxi denim skirts has pushed the Canadian tuxedo firmly into 2023.
KEY BUY:
THE SUIT: OVERSIZED
We're pleased to proclaim that suiting is here to stay. Currently, oversized silhouettes continue to reign supreme, and a full matching set is a definite win.
KEY BUY:
THE JEANS: BAGGY
When it comes to denim, the option du jour remains to be baggy. Slouchy silhouettes juxtaposed with polished tailoring or pushed further with vintage moto styles feel equally effective. If you're looking to take it further, explore a cargo-jean hybrid.
KEY BUY:
THE DRESS: GATHERED
After calling it a few months ago, we're pleased to share that gathered detailing is taking hold right now. In particular, dresses with ruching, gathering or draping have a certain hold on the fashion crowd, and we couldn't be happier.
KEY BUY:
THE JACKET: MOTO
It's no surprise that jacket trends were a focal point as we move towards spring days. The moto jacket is truly having a moment, and bold, colourful styles with racer influences are the coolest way to take on the trend.
KEY BUY:
THE TOP: COLD SHOULDER
Perhaps a symptom of the Y2K revival of recent years, off-shoulder styles are set to feature heavily through spring and summer. Whether in minimal styles or more fluid boho iterations, this is a neckline to consider right now.
KEY BUY:
THE FLATS: LOAFERS
The on-the-go fashion-week attendees reiterated the importance of great flat shoes. Whether you're dashing from show to show or simply taking on your commute, a classic pair of loafers will be a style to rely on.
KEY BUY:
THE BAG: BAGUETTE
When it comes to handbags, there's been a '00s feeling over the past few seasons. With micro styles packed away, the baguette has returned after a 20-year hiatus, reaffirming this shape as the silhouette of 2023.
KEY BUY:
THE BOOTS: SILVER
Throughout the week, silver boots glinted through the overcast Paris days as showgoers stepped out in metallic soles. From pairing with miniskirts and leather midis to peaking out under trench coats (see the first slide), there are plenty of ways to play with this key style.
KEY BUY:
THE JEWELLERY: OVERSIZED
If you're looking to revamp your jewellery box, this new trend is a great place to start. After years of minimal huggies and barely-there chain necklaces, bold and oversized earrings are here to take centre stage.
