This "Dated" Shoe Trend Is Here to Rival Pointed Toes This Spring

It's really starting to feel like spring now, so I'm desperate to jump on the warm-weather trends I've been waiting to wear since September. First on the list is the new-season shoe trend I've already spotted so many of my favourite celebrities in. Swapping out their go-to pointed-toe shoes, celebs have been gravitating towards peep-toes instead to put the finishing touches on their looks. The once-forgotten shoe style has been cropping up more and more in recent months as brands continue to experiment with the proportions of their clothes and accessories.
Pioneering the revival, Miu Miu's A/W '23 collection championed the classic peep-toe, and other designers and brands have since followed suit. Most recently, Chloe's A/W '24 runway show in Paris last weekend was rife with the newly trending shoe. On the runway and in the front row, models and fashion people alike wore boho-inspired takes on the peep-toe shoe.
Beyond fashion week, this somewhat divisive shoe trend is a regular throughout awards season—Margot Robbie opted for a sleek black pair for a red carpet appearance ahead of last month's BAFTAs. An avid fan of the peep-toe, Robbie has chosen them for everything from star-studded events to casual outings for many seasons. Perhaps taking inspiration from the Barbiecore trend she spearheaded last summer, her elegant styling of these peep-toe mules retained a vintage quality that worked so well with her strapless midi dress but would look equally as chic with long trousers or a cotton dress.
Whilst peep-toe heels can be styled with cocktail dresses and longer gowns to formal events, the cutout detail lends the style a casual nature that can pair just as well with billowy silhouettes in cotton fabrics.
Spotted on the streets of Paris during Paris Fashion Week, showgoers cemented their support for the peep-toe, styling them with coordinating two-pieces, longline button-downs and structured suits.
With a distinct warm-weather energy, we predict that this underrated trend is set to rival its pointed counterpart this season, and brands are backing it too. From Mango's metallic mules to Sézane's summer-ready sandals, the peep-toe shoe is officially primed to enter our wardrobes.
So if you're considering digging into the depths of your wardrobe to revisit those peep-toe heels you used to love, this is your sign. And if your heels collection needs a refresh, you can shop the best new-season peep-toes below.
