The Micro Detail That Makes a Big Difference

Roksanda Ilincic has always shown an exemplary skill for ruffles, amongst many other things. They've often cascaded down dresses or across blouses, and today almost no look would've been complete with them fluttering away somewhere in some form. For autumn/winter 2016 they are small but mighty, adorning high pussy-bow collars with a foppish flourish, poking out from underneath coat sleeves or finishing off the arms of sweet dresses like little matching lampshades. This subtle detail is shaping up to be big news for the next season, but of course, there was more that we loved from the show...

Roksanda's autumnal palette was rich but not regimental or traditional; you can wear royal blue with plum, rust and blush pink if you want to. Her velvet boots—Tabitha Simmons over-the-knee stretch-velvet with a blocky mid heel and some featuring embellished stars—were ultra-desirable and no doubt on many a mental checklist already.

The swooping, elegant gowns were formed in colour-blocked plissé pleats fastened at the neck with a velvet ribbon… In short, just the ticket for hitting a Cannes red carpet on a balmy evening. And talking of dresses, this runway marked Roksanda presenting her 1000th frock to date. Our memories aren't infallible, but we are fairly certain we've loved every one.
