See How the Same Classic Trend Looks on 6 Different Royals
Not every single member of royalty has classic style—or interprets classic style the same way—but there’s certainly a level of decorum they all follow. That is, at least at public events. But despite their different styles, there is one classic trend that many of them agree on: the belted trench dress.
Just yesterday Queen Letizia of Spain made an appearance wearing such a number, a navy dress that hit all the marks of said trend that has been seen on at least six other royal members. It was a button-down dress/jacket hybrid with a fabric belt worn to cinch the wait and left with extra slack to hang.
It’s a look we’ve seen repeated over and over, but trust that it stands the test of time. As far as other royals go, there have been iterations with iconic camel trenches (a British staple of course), versions with boatneck silhouettes, and skirts with a bit more drama. But across the board, the trend remains strong, and ahead we’ve showcased five other royals who stand behind this waist-defining, ambiguously outerwear dress look.
Yesterday, Queen Letizia was seen in this tailored dress, which could easily function as a light coat as well. The pared-back styling included an extra-long belt hanging past her waist.
Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle donned a modern version with a sleeveless silhouette and monotone styling.
Taking cues from Markle’s signature neckline, Princess Eugenie wore a trench dress with a wide collar.
Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz goes for a bit more drama in a trench fashioned like a dress, full skirt included.
Lady Kitty Spencer went for the leather look.
Even Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Bowles appreciates the timeless trend. She wears a traditional trench here but achieves the same frock look as her fellow royals.
